BONUS ROUND 3

Bonus Round 3

Retro Gaming

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!

Rules
  1. Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.

  2. Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.

  3. For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!

  4. For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!

  5. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

Title Format
Please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Replace [GAME TITLE] and [YEAR RELEASED] as appropriate.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All content must be created new for this round.

We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!

Your vision blurs. You can hear him shouting as he falls to him knees by your side. His words make no sense to you; you're past comprehension now. You can still feel though. In fact, it seems as if your sense of touch has sharpened acutely. The pain is seering but it fails to overpower the cold of his fingers as he brushes your exposed side. You can feel your body dying and it surprises you. It hurts a lot less than you would have ever expected. In fact, it's a lot like slipping into slumber.

Your faltering gaze locks onto his, vision still too far gone to notice the fear and overwhelming grief he's directed your way. Things are darkening around you; suddenly everything is too much. Too much light, too much noise, too muchtoomuchtoomuchtoomuch-- you shut your eyes.

---

The Overseer's voice drones on as he lectures the class about the Resource Wars. You sigh to yourself and lean back in your chair, pencil drumming on your desk. Off to your side, your best friend shoots you a look; you can tell he wants to punch the Overseer in the face almost as much as you do. You smile at him and blow a kiss his way, grinning as he reddens and turns from you, grumbling all the while.

"And what exactly do you find funny about a global nuclear war Ms. Harley?"

You snap back to attention, the Overseer glaring at you, "Nothing at all sir."

"Then please attempt to restrain yourself from giggling to your boyfriend during important history lessons."

You hear a few kids snickering and you grip on your pencil tightens. You notice your "boyfriend" reddening further and slinking back in his seat, trying to somehow glare a hole into the Overseer's forehead. For his sake, you bite back a retort. For his sake, you simply nod briskly at the Overseer's petulant face and try to count the plants in your make-shift garden to calm yourself down as he smirks in superiority.

---

"I wonder what it's like out there." You sigh, lying back in your bed and staring at the gloomy metal ceiling that's accompanied you throughout your entire life.

"It's a fucking wasteland," he barks from your side, "Mutants and radiation-- anybody left on the outside probably looks less like human and more like those dirty rats that seem to keep crawling in here."

You turn on your side to face him, "Still."

He turns his head to look at you, black hair messily spread atop his head and red eyes frowning. You reach out a hand and brush his cheek, smiling softly as he goes red. You don't move it though, you keep it resting lightly by his ear, playing with tufts of hair.

"It's got to be better than being trapped in here."

---

When the Water Chip breaks, you are ecstatic. Thanks to your Grandfather, you have the best firearm training out of everyone in Vault 13. It doesn't surprise you in the least when you are the one selected to head out and find a replacement. You can't wait to head out and discover what the world has to offer. Karkat is wary, but eventually you manage to convince him to come along with you.

"This is the stupidest fucking idea your minuscule brain has even had Harley. And that's fucking saying something."

You frown at him and smack the back of his head, merely rolling your eyes as he flings obscenities your way, "Just relax! We'll be fine, you'll see."

You redirect your attention back to the Vault door, breath catching a bit as clinks and whirls. It's opening; you're standing right here in front of it as it opens and soon you'll be getting your first breath of outside sir. There's excitement stirring within you and you can't help the huge grin that plasters itself on your face.

Giddy, you turn to look at Karkat, expecting to see his expression mirror yours. Instead you find him just watching you. Staring. Your smile falls a bit and you tilt your head in question. He only shakes his head, turning away and facing the opening Vault door. You watch him in confusion for a few moments before frowning and turning back to the Vault.

---

The commotion as the Vault opened was deafening but you heard him anyways. Just like you can still hear him now. Even as your body starts to feel cold and you start to shiver from bloodloss, even as the sounds get louder and his voice grows distant. You can still hear him. You can always here him. Always.

"I hope you're right... because I don't think I could handle it if something happened to you."
