The souljaboytellums were coming in nicely, their phosphorescent blooms sending the thick scent of cinnamon and gooseberries into the air. Jade packed the fertilizer down around them as bright blue caterpillars climbed out of their worm houses to watch her.
"Good evening, little guys," Jade said. They waved their little antennas and sung a high pitched tune in response.
"Jade!" Feferi called from over the picket fence.
"Oh, you're up early!" Jade responded. She climbed to her feet, brushing the purple soil from her knees. The diddisanthmums tilted their heads up and snapped at her, angry that they hadn't been fed yet. She flicked the leader on its petal snout and they slunk back into their bushes.
"Yes," Feferi said. She cradled a mug in her hand and sipped in occasionally as she scanned Jade's yard with an appraising eye. "I see you're gardening again. That's so quaint."
"Thank you," Jade said. "How are your cuttlebirds doing?"
"Fine," Feferi said. "Thank you for asking."
"You're welcome," Jade said. She wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.
"You must be tired," Feferi said. "Would you care from some rawberryade?"
"That would be lovely," Jade said. Feferi disappeared inside her house and returned with an icy glass filled with syrupy liquid, green with bright orbs of red and yellow throughout.
"Here you go," Feferi said as she handed it over. Jade smiled and thanked her before drinking.
"Aw, perfect," Jade said, her throat tingling from the exploding bubbles.
"Will Dave be returning soon?" Feferi asked. Her eyes cut over towards Jade's empty driveway and then back quickly.
"Not for another hour, I believe," Jade said. "How about Sollux?"
"He's gone for a few days," Feferi said. "Business trip."
"Aw," Jade said. She sipped her rawberryade and leaned on the fence.
The caterpillar's singing was the only noise around them in the twilight of the evening. The twin suns were slow to set and cast the world into a strange in-between state, neither night nor day.
Feferi suddenly lunged forward and grabbed Jade by her shoulders, pulling her forward to kiss her. Jade dropped her glass, hands clutching the wooden fence between them as the kiss deepened.
Feferi finally pulled away, gasping. They stayed close, panting into each other's mouths for several long, stretching minutes. Jade shifted back on her heels and cleared her throat.

"It was my pleasure," Feferi told her.
