It's about a week into their "trip around the world and back come on rose itll be really fun!!!" and Rose is already feeling the headache building behind her eyes every time Jade has to stop for something.
"I'm really sorry, it's urgent!" Jade yells back at the car, or the SUV, whatever's available for rent at the moment. Not that it matters, because they aren't getting anywhere very fast -- they have to stop every day, driving only at night. Rose has never seen such peculiar behavior. When she finally talks Jade into driving during the day, the other girl bundles up in scarves and hats, as if it were the dead of winter instead of the middle of summer. After pummeling her with questions and getting nothing in return, Rose just puts it off as sheer Jade Harley nonsense, putting up with her eccentricities as something she probably learned from her domestic pet on a foreign island.
It isn't until two weeks in, somewhere in Russia, that Rose finally decides to figure out what's going on. Usually they take separate rooms in hotels -- but tonight there's only one, something that Rose tells Jade firmly: "We'll just have to settle, don't be unreasonable. We're presumably best friends, and yet you won't spend the night in the same room with me. That would be considered avoidance tactics." Jade looks like she's going to be ill, but doesn't try and argue this time; they check into the room and she immediately locks herself in the bathroom.
It's been an hour and Rose needs to use the restroom -- quite urgently, mind you -- so with some creative hairpin use she picks the lock.... walking in on Jade brushing a pair of long, pointed fangs.
"Well, that's new." "I'm so sorry Rose, they're-- they're fake!" Jade throws the toothbrush down and a blush starts to creep across her features, letting Rose know that she's definitely not telling the truth. "I swear, I was going to tell you, but back when we were in Romania, I um...well, that night that I didn't come back, I accidentally might have gotten bit by a vampire...."
Rose shrugs. Greater things have happened in their young lives, and far be it from her to judge her best friend for something she couldn't control. "You actually look quite...charming with the teeth. Tell me, are you thirsty? You'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge on the vampiric species, but my woe-begotten interests lie in the more tentacle clad creatures." That manages to get a smile out of Jade, at least.
"Kind of. I wasn't really sure what to do...I think I know, but..." "Then it's settled, I'll help you. Come back in here." Rose turns around without a second thought, heart pounding. What had she just done? Jade was barely fit to suck blood from the neck of her best friend. ...well, at least if Rose Lalonde died, it would be quite a way to go. Jade follows without another thought, joining Rose on the single bed. Rose leans in close to Jade, murmuring under her breath.
"I didn't think I'd be seduced by a vampire on this trip." "I can stop, if you--" "No, no. You do what you must. It's for the greater cause, after all." And then Jade's lips are on hers, and she wasn't really expecting that -- but it makes sense, she thinks, they're very close, they've kissed before. And finding boys wasn't exactly the point of the road trip, ever. Rose doesn't have a chance to think before she's being pushed back against the sheets of the bed, Jade's kisses trailing from her lips to the sensitive skin of the her neck. There's a pain -- she gasps, fingers gripping Jade's shoulders in surprise -- before, as if magic, it was over. Rose stared at the other girl, who was quickly trying to lick the blood off of her lips.
"How long was I out?" "I don't know, maybe an hour? I'm sorry it took so long, I had no idea if you were dying, so I tried to go really slow!" "You know, that was actually enjoyable, in a macabre sense. Do you think you could come back here and demonstrate again?" "Are you sure you aren't tired? Giving blood can be really draining, I almost fainted on--"
The words are cut off by another kiss, and they spend the rest of the day 'demonstrating.' But somehow, they're back in the car, driving to who knows where Russia, where neither of them can read the road signs.
"Can we do that every day?" Jade's voice is eager, expectant. Rose gives a glance at the other girl and smiles. "Of course. As long as you promise that you'll stake me if I turn too. The last thing we need is a coven."
