I tried. This is my OTP, I couldn't resist. I hope you like it!
She rides a horse to her first day in a new school. He thinks this is weird, but doesn't want to say anything; horses were a rare breed on Sprizitos, since so many of its residents didn't actually have legs with which to straddle the beasts, but Jade seemed to know what she was doing. Davesprite didn't even realize that he was following her around, a little bit -- watching as she used the eye scanner for her locker for the first time, laughing as she attempted to play Sprizball without being able to fly (the hoops were one hundred feet off of the ground, how could she possibly play?).
"Hey," he finally managed to say to her as they left the building, Jade headed back to her trusty steed. She turns around and smiles at him. "I was just wondering what you do after school. Since most of the jobs require being a sprite--" "Don't worry about me! Do you want to come and see?" Jade holds out a hand and, without thinking, he takes it. Within minutes he's riding a horse -- fuck wait until i tell mom i rode an earth relic -- holding onto Jade's waist for dear life because oh god how do you steer these things? They arrive at the SBURBian Plains, where spritecows graze contentedly. Jade pulls a length of rope from her belt and lets out a yip; a green spritedog appears at her side, and Davesprite is in awe as the green beast sprints around the field, herding the cattle.
"Do you do this a lot?" Davesprite looks like he's in between running for home and asking her to marry him. Who is this girl? "Yeah! Grandpa always needs help around the farm. But I guess you might have to go? I know people in the city have a curfew." She looks to the east, where the two suns are setting. He nods, curiously. "Uh, yeah. Gotta go." He slips off of the back of the horse and floats away, looking back over his shoulder to see if she was still real, still here.
The next day -- and in the following weeks -- Jade would come to school in more and more curious outfits. One day it was a giant hat (it's a ten-gallon!), the next, things she called "chaps." Sprites didn't have these things on their planet; the other kids thought she was weird, but Davesprite defended her, telling them shes not so bad for a human and lay off or ill punch your face in. In return, she showed him more of her job, milking the spritecows and keeping the spritecoyotes away from her herd. He even met her Grandpa one day, as he came to bring Jade her lunch. .There was just something weird about the two of them, he admitted. But it was something he didn't want to get rid of.
They sat behind the bleachers during lunch, swapping stories. Dave would tell her about life in the city -- not having staircases or doors, having to float in through the windows -- and she would tell him about live in the human reserves, where they had things like 'alarm clocks' and not internal mechanisms that automatically worke them up. It wasn't until the midwinter dance that they realized that they spent more time with one another than was probably normal for friends. Neither of them really seemed to mind, though. The bleachers were the highlight of the day, since they had no classes together. When she asked him out, he agreed, giving her a half-smile she'd come to recognize as a sincere expression of some other big grin he was holding inside.
"Just don't make me ride a horse again, and we're golden." Jade laughed, and agreed.
