FILL: TEAM JOHN<3ROSE

(As a warning, this may squick some people. The ending of this is a callback to an old fairy tale that I read, and not the happy kind.)

-

Once upon a time, a prince and a princess led a rebellion against an evil witch. The witch supplied the good people of the kingdom with sweets and candy, but the prince and princess were not fooled. They knew that the treats were how the witch controlled her victims, and they did all in their power to stop the evil witch and her minions.

"Drone at three o'clock," Rose whispers as she walks forward, gazing ahead into the crowd at no one in particular.

"Gotcha." Dave casually veers to the right and reaches into his pocket. He wraps an arm around the shoulder of a bright red drone and pats its metallic back. He then disappears into the crowd as the robot freezes and collapses onto its side, a hole in its back revealing the now ruined circuitry.

Rose grimaces as the man slips beside her once more. "Honestly, you could at least attempt to do that without attracting too much attention to yourself."

He smirks, though not directly at her. "So says the person who writes the most long winded metaphors in her stories to announce that we're coming for the Batterwitch. I mean, every other line is 'fuck you, BC' and 'I will peel your skin off for my scarf once I'm through with you'. I'm surprised she hasn't caught you yet with how much you say you want to hatefuck her. Maybe I should just abandon the cause now. Hey guys, turns out we can't kill the Batterwitch because Lalonde has the hots for her. Everyone will weep, and then humanity will meet its inglorious end."

"I don't appreciate how you choose to ignore the implications that I bring about through my carefully crafted metaphors, Strider. It certainly has more fineness than the language that comes out of your mouth, most of which you neglect to filter." Rose elbows him, and they see out of the corner of their eyes a crowd of people passing by. They all have vacant smiles on their faces, and red crowns attached to their heads.

"Point taken." The two turn into an empty alleyway. Dave casually leans against the entrance of the alley while Rose begins to touch the metallic walls of the buildings. After several attempts of patting the walls, a small scanner extends from the wall and she smiles.

"Do you have the blood?"

"What do you take me for, some kind of guy that can't even remember anything?" He tosses her a vial of fuchsia liquid.

"Only if it helps you with some sort of 'ironic' joke." She pours the liquid in, and the back wall parts to reveal a factory, with trucks branded "BCCorp" entering and exiting the building. Dave steps forward and takes a deep breath.

"Are you ready to get some shit done?" Dave extends a hand towards Rose.

"Only if you're here to back me up." She grabs his hand and they step forward.

However, the evil witch was clever and ruthless. She knew about the brave prince and princess that wanted to stop her, so she created a trap, knowing that the heroes would try to stop her at all costs.

-

"...Dave?" Rose clutches her stomach as she tries to push herself up. She looks down at her hand, and feels a bit sick when she realizes that the blood staining it is hers.

"I guess that... could have gone better." Rose focuses on the sound, and bites her tongue to keep from screaming when she sees Dave on the ground, his sword impaling his torso and pinning it to the ground. He doesn't even turn towards her as he gasps weakly.

"At least... we had a big... final fucking stand," he wheezes.

"I'm so, so sorry." Rose reaches out for his hand, but she flinches as pain spikes through her body. When she looks up again, she sees that Dave has gone completely still.

"Man, you humans are pathetic!" Rose looks up to see the Batterwitch herself, grinning sadistically. "You sure do like to play up the role of hero when given the chance, even if it means you'll die. I wonder what you were thinking, doing something so stupid! Did you really see no other way to win? Well, you failed!"

Rose waits for her to put her out of her misery as the Batterwitch cackles gleefully, but the Batterwitch instead pulls out a red crown. Her eyes widen.

"Man, this is too good of an opportunity to waste! I wonder how the rest of the Resistance will feel once I've made an example out of you..."

As punishment for the prince's and princess's defiance, the witch killed the prince and put the princess under her spell. She then forced the princess to eat the flesh of her prince in front of the entire kingdom. The people always remembered the vacant smile of the princess and the cruel laughter of the witch.

After the princess lost all will to live, the witch put her out of her misery by forcing her to jump into the sea. The princess's choked sobs were washed away by the tide carrying her out into the water.

THE END.

((I'm so sorry. I tried to make this something else, and then I couldn't. Also, I'm not sure how well I handled the cyberpunk, but that is another issue entirely.))
