Re: PROMPT: TEAM GAMZEE♥KARKAT

((So... I dunno if I'm entirely happy with this. But here it is. Hope you like it, because I was a big fan of the prompt and I'm sorry I've sort of butchered it.))

There were two heroes, once, a mother and a brother. Neither ever got to meet the child that gave them their monicker, but the titles made them powerful, and the longing to see those that they would never know only made them even stronger. Because they had a world to protect for their young ones.

They lived in a world where that was a rather important strength, because it was with their own sweat and blood and tears that they would have to carve out a place for said young ones.

Things were, to put it simply, complicated. There was a water witch of an alien who controlled a popular baking goods empire and segued that power into world domination, becoming, as some have so eloquently put it, "Sea Hitler". There was extreme terraforming and political debacles and all sorts of mess that made the world unfit for children. The children wouldn't come for a while yet, so the bubble of sanctuary that the brother and the mother carved out had to last for millennia. Creating the houses was the easy part. It was the rest of the chaos that was a bit difficult.

He went up against two evil, crazed men who had been put in charge of the world's most important country. After setting up a life and an apartment for his young-one-to-be, he went and, with what many presumed to be his last act, he fought them to the bloody, horrific, crazed death. All along, he had possessed the heart of a hero, and now he had proven it: one of the most heroic moments in human history, and he was the lone wolf who had stood up and gone into battle.

Hers was a similar story climaxing in a similar moment, though she had one foe to face in place of two. She tracked down and faced off with the "Chaplain of Interstellar War", a man well famed from the days when sea hitler had just been an unassuming alien woman in charge of an extremely large company. She fought just as valiantly, gouging out both of the man's eyes with her iconic needles.

And then, for a while, they disappeared. And the world went back to turning, only a little bit better, because Sea Hitler was still just as much of a sea witch, just as Hitleresque, and just as much in charge.

Only a fool would think the pair would stand for that.

They came back from the farthest reaches of nowhere, to make their last stand together. The leader still lived, still stood, still led, and it was that that had to be changed for things to get any better.

They stood.

They readied themselves.

They began to fight, side by side, together, in tandem.

And then,

together,

they fell.

Many would think that they lost. In fact, many have said that they lost. But that is a poor assessment of the facts. They might have fallen, but they were not the end. They were not the last humans on earth. Their children--and they were, completely, inextricably, their children, and there was no denying that after all that they'd been through together--would still come. Their children would be the last to come, the last humans on earth, and it was they who would defeat the sea witch.

It had been them all along. And the mother and the brother had, all along, known that it would have to come down to their deaths so that their children could be ready to pick up where they left off.

It was not a loss--oh no!--because it was not the end. It was only the beginning, and all those who thought that the loss of a leader has to mean the end of a war may still have yet to be proven wrong, but they will.

Oh, they will.
