“I feel kind of funny.” The phrase, whether the voice was high pitched and irritating or gravelly and a little intimidating, like it was now, was one that Karkat dreaded hearing. Coming from his partner, it always meant something unspeakably annoying.
The truth was, being transferred to the Digital World on a whim like Karat had been was just one huge pain in the ass. From the get go, he'd just been expected to put up with this idiot Digimon for a partner (which had to be shown where to shit, for fuck's sake) and try to save the world. Not his own world, mind, jus the Digital World, which had so far proven to contain only pricks, idiots, and assholes.
Needless to say, he wanted to get this extended vacation over with and move on with his life.
His partner, now called Graymon in spite of the fact that there was nothing gray about the giant lizard, had been a pain in the ass to train, but now that he was a Champion, Karkat felt confident about venturing into the jungle. They were neck deep in it when Graymon decided to make the comment about “feeling funny”. Karkat whirled, ready to tell him he could just shit in the bushes, when Karkat noticed that Graymon was glowing.
For a moment, Karkat thought his partner might be digivolving again. However, the glow didn't look quite right, and when he looked at his digivice, Karkat found a giant X flashing on the screen.
“What--” He started to say, only to see Graymon break apart into pixels. Rather than reforming into a bigger digimon, though, they swirled down into the shape of... an egg. When the light subsided, that was exactly what Karkat was left staring at. Before he could fully process the change, the egg's shell cracked. Shards fell away, revealing a tiny black ball with eyes that hopped up and down like it was having some kind of seizure. It was a baby digimon.
Karkat's partner had just gone from Champion to Baby form, and they were in the middle of a jungle teeming with digimon that wanted to kill him.
