Jade sighed, rolling over. The bed was just so warm and comfortable... She sat up abruptly. This was no time for sleeping! It was a new day, and she had to get to work!
She jumped out of bed, scratching Bec's ears as he trotted towards her. A piece of bread was enough for breakfast and then she was off, opening the door and stepping outside.
Her farm. Her home. She walked forward, savouring the sights. It was a little bare here and there, sure, but it was beautiful to her. There were the crops she had planted, all tomatoes and corn. And there was the barn - she only had a couple of cows at the moment, but she loved them dearly, as well as her five chickens.
Jade breathed in deeply, smelling the fresh air, and enjoyed the feel of the morning sun on her skin.
She grinned, pushing up her sleeves. It was time to get to work!

Jade walked through the town, hitching the backpack more comfortably on her back. She's already travelled to the mountain to pick flowers (and planned to go there that afternoon for some fishing) and was passing through each of the buildings to say hello to her friends. She'd already greeted John and Jane in the cafe and Rose in her home plus Gamzee at the general store, but there was one other person she was particularly looking forward to seeing. She smiled to herself, unable to resist quickening her pace as she approached the animal store.
"Good morning!" she cried, bursting through the door.
"Um, hello," Tavros greeted from the counter, waving a little.
"How are things over here? Is Horsaroni doing better?"
Tavros nodded earnestly. "Yeah, definitely - much better! I think she just, um, was a little sick? She's much better now."
"That's great!" Jade beamed, leaning in the front counter.
But Tavros only smiled nervously in response, avoiding her eyes. Jade tilted her head curiously. In such a quiet place as this little village, everyone tended to get into routines with one another, especially the people they talked to every day. Normally at this point Tavros would ask about Jade's cows and chickens and crops and they'd talk for a while until she went on her way. Maybe today was different?
"Heh...um, Aradia's been around some more as well! It's been really great having her around!"
Jade paused, then couldn't help but laugh. Well, there was only so exciting this place could get, anyway! "I'm happy to hear that! I should really go see her more often - she sounds really nice!"
"She is," Tavros agreed and Jade giggled.
"Oh! And..." Jade shrugged her backpack from one shoulder, rummaging through it. "This!" She handed him the small flower, the same one she picked from the mountain every day for Tavros.
At this point, Tavros would normally smile and thank her profusely for the gift. But again, he surprised her.
Tavros took the flower hesitantly, looking down at it. "Um...th-thanks a lot! I really appreciate it..."
Jade watched him, overcome with a sudden urge to hug him. Geez, he was so cute! After a moment's thought, she settled on resting her chin on her hands and telling him so.
"Er...r-really?"
"Yes!"
Tavros flushed and Jade shook her head, smiling even harder. He just kept getting cuter and cuter!
But, unfortuantely... Jade stepped backwards, putting her backpack on again. "Well, I should be off. If I don't leave soon, I won't catch Kanaya before she leaves for Rose's!"
"Of course! Um, goodbye!"
Jade waved goodbye, stepping lightly as she left the store. What an odd day! Or was it? Tavros had been acting a little weirdly, but it wasn't so strange... But Jade let herself grin a little, thinking about the flower she'd pick for him tomorrow. It was just a little thing, but she couldn't help but get the impression that they'd grown closer today, somehow. And that, even if it was just a little thing, was enough to make her whole day brighter.
