And now, the moment you've been waiting so patiently for: the very last HSO post!
We'd like to thank everyone who helped make this challenge possible--mods, first readers, data crunchers, and emergency volunteers of all stripes (y'all know who you are!)--but especially all of you, for participating. When we first started up HSO, we could never have imagined that it would become the behemoth that it did, and we have been continually astounded by the effort, creativity, and sheer ambition of the work you've put forth here, both in 2011 and now. And we just want to say--we've never thought of this as a competition! You guys are all awesome, points or no points, and you should be proud of what you've accomplished over the past couple of months.
Unfortunately, it's become increasingly obvious that even with a full team of supporting mods, the HSO has gotten way, way too big for us to handle. This sort of event really isn't structured to handle more than a couple hundred participants, and it's simply not fair to anyone involved for us to try to keep going.
In short, we regret to announce that there will be no HSO 2013--this is the end of the line for us. Running the HSO for the past two seasons has been an unforgettable experience, and we're so glad you could share it with us! We wish you all the best in your future shipping endeavors.

Hello shippers!

I just realized in posting this that the last time we made a standings announcement, it was before we had the results in for round 1. We're really sorry about this!! Hopefully this won't happen again and we can increase the frequency of standing posts. The only thing I believe is unaccounted for on this list is the bonuses for team voting. It may include the bonuses for round 1, I'm not entirely certain, but the numbers are subject to change!

Hey, shippers! HSO is winding down, so we thought we'd take a look back at the journey, so to speak. With that in mind, this next bonus round is going to be roadtrip-themed! Give us a little taste of your characters' life on the road, whatever form that takes.

Mobius Double Reacharound FST - Revisited

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 4! Bringing back a favourite from last year! (Sorry for the delay, we're very busy!)

Here’s how this is going to work: somebody will submit a selection of 3-6 songs without comment. Then somebody else will come along and create a companion fanwork to fit the soundtrack!

Rules

If you are submitting a soundtrack: submit only the track listing and download or youtube links. The idea is that people should ~interpret~ your selections!

You are not allowed to fill soundtrack prompts with your team's ship, nor are you allowed to fill your own soundtracks. (Filling your team's soundtracks is okay!)

Soundtracks count for 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.

Fills may be in whatever format you choose (except FST, of course) so long as they link the songs by mood and/or lyrics in some kind of narrative.

Post your fill as a comment to the prompt post, using the title format described below.

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EST August 3rd.

We're sorry for the delay, but the Round Two Phase One voting is up now! We've had a lot of problems with gforms, which we've been using for the voting up until now--some of you know this very well!--so we're trying things a little differently this time, and we hope that it will work better. This round, you'll post your votes in screened comments on DW, and we will enter the votes into our handy dandy spreadsheet by hand, which should minimize screwups! Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be able to weight votes to account for which entries were read more frequently. We ask that you instead please read as much of your assigned sector as you reasonably can before voting, and that you not vote if you have not read a majority of the entries.

You must vote for five different teams, all of which must have submitted entries in this round of the HSO. Incorrect voting will be disregarded, and may be penalized.

All HSO participants are eligible to vote in Phase Two, including Team English.

Remember that you must vote for five different teams, none of which is your own. If you fail to do this, you will be penalized 10 points! If you are worried you have voted incorrectly, or submitted multiple votes, please email us. Do not re-submit, and do not assume that we'll miss it and your vote will be counted anyway. We won't and it won't.

ETA: Sorry, we accidentally listed the wrong sector assignments! The ones below should be correct.
ETA 2: Nope, mimicre messed up in fixing it and accidentally assigned S1 to their own entries; this version should be correct.

There are a few entries (all submitted or resubmitted tonight) still in queue, and we're also waiting on several other resubmissions, but the vast majority of entries we have received are now posted on their respective comms.

Round 2 Phase One voting will open some time this coming weekend. For now, please read your sector's assigned entries!

Sector One should go to hso2012_r2s3.
Sector Two should go to hso2012_r2s4.(Sector Two should note that a lot of palhonchos in Sector Four mistakenly locked their team's entries. Please join the comm to see them!)

In other news, the late submission penalty has been revoked. After discussion, we have decided that applying a penalty for late entries isn't something we're going to do. We feel that extreme lateness is its own penalty, and encourage everyone to submit their round entries as close to the round closing as possible, because late entries are seen by fewer participants and receive fewer votes.

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!

Rules

Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.

Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.

For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!

For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

Title Format
Please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Replace [GAME TITLE] and [YEAR RELEASED] as appropriate.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Hey shippers!
Welcome to the very last main round. The R1 Phase One results should be up in a day or two, as should the R1 Phase Two voting form; the R2 entries are being processed right now, and the R2 Phase One voting form will go up when the R1 Phase Two voting form closes.

This round is a format challenge! Your R3 entry should be composed of two separate but related parts. They should be roughly equal in size/complexity; we're not going to be policing that, but the general idea is that they should balance each other in some way.

All submissions must be created/assembled new for this round by members of your team.

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. If your Palhoncho sends it in after that time according to the gmail timestamp and before voting closes, your team's entry will get posted--but we may not be able to approve it out of the queue right away.

Requirements (as stated in the Info Post)
Fic/meta must be between 800-3000 words.
Combination fic/art entries cannot have more than 4 images.
All other image-based media (including comics) cannot exceed 10 images/panels.
Cosplay must be at least 75% created or assembled new for the challenge.
Gifs and other animations must be 8 seconds or less total. (e.g. you could have one 5-second gif and one 3-second gif)
Games are still subject to the 10-image limit.
Live-action movies are limited to one minute total.
Original music is also limited to one minute total.

The penalties for going over 3k words will be as follows:
3000-3050: no penalty (to allow for disparities in wordcount software)
3051-3150: -30 points
3151-3250: -60 points
etc.
PLEASE NOTE that gdocs is notoriously bad at generating an accurate wordcount, so you should probably check your submission at http://www.wordcounter.net/ just to make sure.
Also, this year we are requiring transcriptions of all text on images. These transcriptions count towards the wordcount.

For audio/vid files, we are allowing a 2-second grace period, and applying a 30-point penalty every 5 seconds after that. For animations, we are allowing a 1-second grace period, and applying a 30-point penalty every 2 seconds after that.

Penalties for going over the image limit will be 30 points per extra image.

If your entry has 800 words or more, it will be considered fic and will be subject to the illustrated fic limit.

Please remember not to post your HSO creations publicly until voting ends, whether or not they are chosen as part of the team submission. We would like to keep things as anonymous as possible!
