BONUS ROUND 1
Bonus Round 1
Genre-Mixing
Hey, shippers! Welcome to your very first bonus round proper--we hope you have lots of fun with it! This time around we're going to be asking you to mix it up a little--each fanwork posted for this round will be a mish-mash of two different genres, blended together in a delightful incestuous slurry to create an UNSTOPPABLE CREATIVE CONCOCTION--er. Or. Something.
Yeah, we're genre-mixing. That's what we're doing this round.
Rules
- Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of two different genres and one ship. This cannot be your team's ship! These are worth 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.
- Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!
- You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.
- Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.

If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.

FILL: TEAM DIRK<3JAKE<3JANE<3ROXY
Siren Song
Roxy always swam too close to ports. Their parents had warned them about the dangers of such waters but the glittering lights reflected on the waves proved to be far too tempting. Rose had gone with her when they were younger but she lost interest in her teens, content to curl up in a cavern and read her tomes stolen from wrecks.
"Come with me!" Roxy pleaded. "It'll be so much fun! You should see the latest human fashions."
"I don't know what you find so fascinating about them," Rose said.
"They're just so cute," Roxy said. "They were such pretty things and make interesting gadgets and they're really funny."
"Funny?" Rose asked, raising an eyebrow.
"To watch! From a distance," Roxy quickly said. "You know, funny like that."
"I see," Rose said. "I suppose I can come if it means that much to you."
"You're the best sister in the world!" Roxy said. She pulled Rose close and rubbed their noses together. Rose's heart stuttered in her chest and she felt warm despite the cool current.
That evening Rose followed Roxy's lead. They swam past the far side of the reef into open ocean, Roxy laughing and challenging Rose to races the whole time. Roxy won them, she had always been the more athletic of the two sisters. The moon was high in the sky at the time they reached the mouth of the bay. The port could hardly be classified a city in Rose's opinion, but Roxy was nearly beside herself at the sight.
"Can you imagine it, Rose?" Roxy asked. "Being a human explorer and finding something new everyday?"
"There's plenty of new things in the ocean, too," Rose said.
"Sure, sure, but it's not the same," Roxy said.
Roxy couldn't convince Rose to swim all the way too the docks but they got pretty close, hiding behind a rocky outcropping and watching the great wooden ships rise and fall with the tides and the humans stumble around the decks.
"Next time," Roxy told Rose as they headed home. "You have to come with me to my favorite hiding spot. You can see a human bar from there and the most interesting things happen in it."
Sleep wouldn't come for Rose when they finally snuck into their beds. She had known she and her sister had been drifting apart for some time but their little trip had made it all too apparent. If she wasn't careful she would lose Roxy to the humans completely.
The Black Queen lived in a deep trench several leagues from the reef. Rose would visit her occasionally to ask advice about her own experiments in the realm of sea magic. Her visits had been becoming more and more infrequent as she found herself growing more confident at doing her own experimentation. But Roxy was too important to risk making any mistake.
"Rose," the Queen cooed. "Please come in, I have missed you so."
"Thank you," Rose said as two the Queen's eels pulled a clam shell over for her to sit on.
"What can I do for my favorite little guppy?" the Queen asked.
"It's my sister," Rose said. "I'm... concerned about her."
"Ah, yes. It's always family, isn't it? Please, tell me more."
"She's been swimming towards the port more and more. She's not in her room six nights of ten. And I suspect she's beginning to go there during the day as well," Rose explained.
"It's normal for young women to be fascinated by the unknown," the queen said. "Humans are a passing fancy for most."
"I think she's talked to them."
"Aw." The Queen tapped her cheek with a long clawed finger. "That does complicate things."
Rose left the Queen's abode hours later with a violet vial clutched in her hand. She sat in her room after dinner and looked at herself in the mirror. Her skin was very pale, so unlike Roxy who loved the sun. Rose stared into her reflection's eyes and steeled herself.
She knocked softly on Roxy's door and it opened immediately.
"Are you ready to go?" Roxy whispered excitedly.
"Not quite yet," Rose said. The potion bubbled in her gut and she knew she didn't have much time. She pressed close to her sister, backing Roxy up until she hit the stone wall.
"Rose-" Roxy started. Her eyes were so bright, even more so half lidded. Rose hesitated and Roxy moved, not away but up so their lips connected. Rose was startled but only for a moment. She pushed Roxy back against the wall with the force of her kiss. The heat in her stomach was bubbling up and she struggled to concentrate on mouthing the words of the spell while Roxy kissed her throat.
"Stay with me," Rose said as she finished.
"What?" Roxy asked. She pulled back and Rose watched as her eyes went glassy.
"Stay with me," Rose repeated. "Don't go to the humans, stay with me."
"Of course," Roxy said. "I would never want to leave you ever."
Roxy reached out and brushed a tendril of hair from Rose's face. Rose caught her hand and brought it to her lips, kissing each finger while Roxy hummed dreamily. Rose could feel the spell wrapping around Roxy, binding her to Rose. Forever.
Just the way it should be.
