Bonus Round 6

Recs

Hey, shippers! This is the last bonus round, which we’re all very sad about. So let’s talk about some of the awesome stuff created throughout the HSO!

Rules
  1. Rec at least three fanworks from the main or bonus rounds! They do not have to be connected to each other in any way.

  2. You may not recommend material created by members of your own team.

  3. Each recommendation must include at least three full sentences about why it’s awesome. Please use the format specified below.

  4. You may recommend as many sets as you like, so long as each set has at least three recs in it.

Title & Rec Format
If you are doing a fill, use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

The content of the post should be in this format (extend as necessary):

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
For fills (as stated here):
First 5 entries in each post: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10 in each post: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15 in each post: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+ in each post: 5 (per entry)

If you have any questions, please ask them at the FAQ post here, or email them to us (homestuck.shipping at gmail). Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that we will see them in a timely fashion!

Bonus Round 4

Mobius Double Reacharound FST - Revisited

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 4! Bringing back a favourite from last year! (Sorry for the delay, we're very busy!)

Here’s how this is going to work: somebody will submit a selection of 3-6 songs without comment. Then somebody else will come along and create a companion fanwork to fit the soundtrack!

Rules
  1. If you are submitting a soundtrack: submit only the track listing and download or youtube links. The idea is that people should ~interpret~ your selections!

  2. You are not allowed to fill soundtrack prompts with your team's ship, nor are you allowed to fill your own soundtracks. (Filling your team's soundtracks is okay!)

  3. Soundtracks count for 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.

  4. Fills may be in whatever format you choose (except FST, of course) so long as they link the songs by mood and/or lyrics in some kind of narrative.

  5. Post your fill as a comment to the prompt post, using the title format described below.

  6. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EST August 3rd.

Title Format

If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

If you are filling a prompt, use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
For prompt posts: 5 points each (maximum of 100 per team)

For Fills (as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All scored content must be created/assembled new for this round.

Bonus Round 3

Retro Gaming

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!

Rules
  1. Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.

  2. Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.

  3. For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!

  4. For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!

  5. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

Title Format
Please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Replace [GAME TITLE] and [YEAR RELEASED] as appropriate.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All content must be created new for this round.

Bonus Round 2

The Return of Round Robin Fanadventures

Comments have been screened; we will be tallying the points over the next 48 hours or so, after which we will unscreen the comments. Comments have been unscreened! You may continue the fanadventures on this post as long as you like, though we will not be awarding further points.

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 2.
Round Robin Fanadventures generated so much awesome stuff last year that we decided to bring it back!

For those who are new to HSO, this is not actually that complicated a concept, but it might be a little tricky to explain, so bear with me. The point of this round is to create a bunch of fanadventures that are for a team other than your own.

Rules
  1. If you are starting a new adventure: start a new thread using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art setting a scene (or both!), and finish with a command (==> does not count as a command for new threads). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
  2. If you are continuing an adventure: find a thread that does not center around your team's ship. Then comment using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art continuing the scene (or both!), and finish with a command (this can include ==>, though generally we would prefer otherwise). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
  3. For ease of reading, we suggest using standardized image sizes. 600x400 landscape is a pretty good size! But as long as it's the same as the other images in the thread, people will have an easier time following along. The HTML for inserting images is <img src="http://yourimageurlhere.com">
  4. For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!
  5. You may not comment twice in a row in one adventure. The point is to hand off the scene like a hot potato.
  6. You may not introduce or create for your team's ship into a fanadventure. If someone else introduces your team's ship to a thread, you can still contribute to that thread so long as your contributions do not involve your ship.
  7. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 7. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the LJ timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

NOTES:
  • Audio posts are fine, so long as you include a transcript.
  • Please make sure to check that your titles are correct!
  • You may answer commands that have already been answered. Think of it like a 'choose your own adventure' game!

Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, use this format in your title.

Replace [THEIR SHIP] with the ship you want this particular fanadventure thread to be. Remember that you cannot create a fanadventure based on your own ship. Whatever ship you choose must be represented by a HSO team not your own. The only exception is gen adventures, which are permitted.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with. If your team name is not in this format and in the title it may not be counted.

If you are continuing a thread, use this format in your title.

Replace [COMMAND] with whatever command the previous fill has specified.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your title is not in this format it may not be counted.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All fanadventure content must be created new for this round.

We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!

Bonus Round 1

Genre-Mixing

Hey, shippers! Welcome to your very first bonus round proper--we hope you have lots of fun with it! This time around we're going to be asking you to mix it up a little--each fanwork posted for this round will be a mish-mash of two different genres, blended together in a delightful incestuous slurry to create an UNSTOPPABLE CREATIVE CONCOCTION--er. Or. Something.

Yeah, we're genre-mixing. That's what we're doing this round.

Rules
  1. Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of two different genres and one ship. This cannot be your team's ship! These are worth 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.

  2. Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!

  3. You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.

  4. Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.

Hey shippers!
The HSO is starting in two weeks, and just like last year, we’re doing a swap meet as a warm-up before things really get going.

Rules
  1. Create a set of 2-6 icons or 1-3 banners (or both!) for one team that is NOT YOUR OWN.

  2. Icons/banners can feature canon art, fanart (ONLY fanart that you have permission to use!), quotes, lyrics, gifs, basically whatever you think is awesome! Remember that these are presents and not black solicitations. We're trusting you to put some degree of heart and soul into them!

  3. Upload them somewhere (cl.ly works pretty well!) and post/link them here with the appropriate title format (see below).

  4. If/when your team receives a gift (and feel free to request icons/banners if you are in need!) it would be nice to thank the gifter, even if you don't end up using any of the graphics! You are of course not obligated to use them or thank people or anything. But it would be cool of you to acknowledge people's hard work!

  5. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT on June 1. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

Title Format

[YOUR USERNAME] should be self-explanatory!

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team that YOU belong to and to whom the points will go. Please use the characters and quadrant in the following format:
KANAYA<>KARKAT

Replace [TAGS] with any applicable tags (see the list). This section is optional!

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Sample title:
FILL: MIMICRE (TEAM JADE<3KANAYA) - TAGS: DROWNING, DEPRESSION

Scoring
The first five entries from each team for this challenge will be worth 10 points each, and the next five will be worth 5 points each. While your team can absolutely submit more than ten entries, the eleventh entry onwards will not be for points; it will just be for fun!
This is not how most bonus round entries will be scored. This is more of a bonus bonus round! For info on the normal scoring system, see here.

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Resources

GNU Image Manipulation Program - Unfortunate name aside, GIMP is actually one of the better open-source image editing programs out there. If you don’t have any software like photoshop, this is the place to start! (Plus, it’s free.)
Lost and Taken - An excellent site for high-resolution textures.
Font Squirrel, Lost Type Foundry, and League of Moveable Type - Free font resources! And the best part is that they're all hand-picked or created by professional graphic designers, so you won’t have to slog through a million lower-quality fonts.
Icon-Extras - A pretty good resource for icon tutorials and the like. Also features textures, brushes, bases etc. that are particularly good for icons (rather than the all-purpose textures at Lost and Taken).

Note that DW icons are 100x100px.
Banners can range quite a bit in size depending on layout but are generally around 150-400px tall and 400-800px wide. This is pretty flexible, though.

We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to homestuck.shipping@gmail.com, as we cannot guarantee that we will see and be able to respond to your comment in a timely fashion.
