Hey, shippers! Welcome to your very first bonus round proper--we hope you have lots of fun with it! This time around we're going to be asking you to mix it up a little--each fanwork posted for this round will be a mish-mash of two different genres, blended together in a delightful incestuous slurry to create an UNSTOPPABLE CREATIVE CONCOCTION--er. Or. Something.

Yeah, we're genre-mixing. That's what we're doing this round.

Rules

1. Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of two different genres and one ship. This cannot be your team's ship! These are worth 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.


2. Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!


3. You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.


4. Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.

hi! now, you may be wondering how a guide to the post-scratch spacescape exists when there are no printers to have created it, but in truth, that’s going to be the least of your worries, if it isnt already.

if the utterly shit state of the universe is news to you, its a miracle youve made it this far. chances are, things are worse off as youre reading this then they are as we are writing it. its not really clear how thats possible, but every time someone comes right out and says that things can’t get any worse, they get shut up real quick. so.

things are probably worse. dont worry, though! there is ALWAYS a way to carry on!

even if it means huddling inside the scooped-out carcasses of space camels. which i have done. take it from someone who knows, the smell washes off eventually!!!

It was dark. The sky was stormy and Sollux's eyes wandered around the desolate land. It didn't feel too different from the world he lived in, the world Aradia lived in. But at least here, they could save it.

"Are you ready, Sollux?" said Aradia, eyes brimming with determination as she clutched her whip. She was clad in a hooded red tunic and a breastplate, with armor on her arms and legs as well. She was his best friend, a brave and beautiful girl, and he didn't know where he'd be without her, even outside the game. Especially outside the game.

Sollux nodded. "Ath ready ath we'll ever be..." he said, his hands glowing as he prepared his magic. He was wearing a dark green cloak on top of yellow robes. They were the only two left to face the final boss in their team. It was time to save the world, and to beat the game.

The boss appeared, a creepy, dark skeleton-like creature of immense size. Aradia leaped ahead before Sollux could say another word. She began attacking the monster rapidly but to no avail. Sollux began blasting it with spells. Their combined effort seemed to be doing some damage.

They continued to attack, dodging hits but taking a few at the same time. Finally, the skeleton seemed to be running out of energy. Or so they thought. Out from it's jaws came a brilliant blue flame, aimed directly at Sollux.

"Sollux, look out!" Aradia quickly took the hit, falling. Sollux screamed as he watched her hit the ground. He rushed to her side, but quickly finished off the creature with a few more spells, as it seemed that attack took the rest of its stamina.

He held Aradia close, looking down at the brave girl he so admired. She slowly opened her eyes, looking up at him. She smiled, touching his cheek.

"You did it..." she said weakly.
"No AA, we did it." he said, hugging her tighter.

The sky began to clear, their surroundings looking beautiful again. Aradia sat up, looking around. The game was over.

"I wish we could do this in real life..."
"I wish we could too...

"I also mean, spending time together!" said Aradia cheerfully. "You know, in person..."

"That... would be really nithe." Sollux said, blushing.

"It's a date then!"
"I gueth it ith."

“Ooooooh,” Roxy whines, tipping back on the chair legs just the way she’s been told not to. “Give it here, Janey, I need to try this puppy out.”

Swatting the sneaky fingers away, Jane moves the ten-and-a-half inch elm wand (Dragon heartstrings, packing quite the punch) out of reach. They’ve had enough drunken magic accidents to last a lifetime, most of them (luckily) fixable through mundane household spells.

“Nuh-uh,” she chides. “I don’t have time to be removing rabbity features again. No, not today, not today at all!”

With a flick of her own wand (a stocky nine inches flat, a rare mahogany, filled with the ever-reliable unicorn hair), Jane lines the rest of the ingredients up along the counter. Another flick, and Roxy’s chair legs hit the floor with a thump - and stick. Literally. She tests them, can’t move an inch, gives up - and then hefts the trendy, handy, sweetly-sized spellbook and stands.

Jane stirs the batter by hand, since it simply never turns out right with the spell her housemates used, but the ingredients march merrily over to add themselves to the mix in their precisely, pre-measured proportions. Like clockwork. It will be the perfect cake.

It will be the perfect cake, if Roxy stops trying to shove all these quick-bake spells on her. It is Jane’s honest opinion that her wife will just never understand the value of Muggle baking. Mostly-Muggle baking.

Batter does best with a figure-eight turn, something most witches never bother to learn, and Jane will be damned if her confections will turn out with the same slightly-overly-moist finish that magic-baked cakes do. See, she’ll tell everyone over and over again, being Muggle-born has its uses, being Muggle-born isn’t all bad, being Muggle-born doesn’t make her goshdarned useless!

Roxy shoves the spellbook under her nose (Semilie Shakes’ Spells for Startlingly Supple Sweets!), and though Jane knows it’ll be another inferior charm, she nudges her glasses up her nose again and peers down at the curly typeface, complete with moving pictures for added help. Jane forces a smile.

“Maybe next time, dear. This cake deserves a more... personal touch, I think.”

“But you say that every. damn. time.”

Eyes are rolled. The spellbook shuts with a snap. Jane’s stirring doesn’t skip a beat. She remembers to add that counter-clockwise turn as well - keeps the batter aerated! - as the last of the ingredients is worked in.

Ooh, but sometimes she does feel guilty, brushing off Roxy’s suggested spells. She would ask her wife to help more often if it weren’t for the fact that those cakes end up barely edible.

“Ah,” she replies. Perfectly noncommittal, for a friend's birthday cake always requires a personal touch. “Fetch the cake tins, would you?”

“We wouldn’t need cake tins if you’d just use those spells,” Roxy singsongs quietly, but she goes and gets them anyways, sets them (perhaps a little too hard; Slytherins hold grudges like no others) on the stovetop, even sneaks the wand out from under Janey’s nose to summon a pat of butter with which to grease the pans.

As always, she leaves a little too much, and Jane makes sure to wipe out the excess as soon as Roxy turns her back.

From there it’s just a ~Wingardium Leviosa~, and the batter pours gently into the pans. There’s no harm in using magic to get all of the batter out of the bowl, no harm in cleaning up with spells. Jane is a purist over the baking portion of the project only.

The tins go in the oven, the timer set to half an hour, and cleanup is a breeze as Roxy lounges again in her chair, lazily waving her wand in circles. It’s a bit of a show, watching her bags of flour and spice tins dance their way back into the cupboard, and Jane relaxes, resting a hand on Roxy’s shoulder.

That hand is quickly seized and marked with black lipstick, lauded with quiet praise of its baking as well as serenaded with filthy promises, wholly nonmagical spells that enchant nonetheless.

There is, after all, half an hour to waste while the cake rises.

Rises the right way.
