Genre-Mixing

Hey, shippers! Welcome to your very first bonus round proper--we hope you have lots of fun with it! This time around we're going to be asking you to mix it up a little--each fanwork posted for this round will be a mish-mash of two different genres, blended together in a delightful incestuous slurry to create an UNSTOPPABLE CREATIVE CONCOCTION--er. Or. Something.

Yeah, we're genre-mixing. That's what we're doing this round.

Rules

1. Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of two different genres and one ship. This cannot be your team's ship! These are worth 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.


2. Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!


3. You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.


4. Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.

Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.
PROMPT: TEAM [YOUR SHIP]
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

If you are filling a prompt, use this format in your title.

Scoring
For prompt posts: 5 points each (maximum of 100 per team)

For fills (as stated here):
First 5 entries in each post: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10 in each post: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15 in each post: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+ in each post: 5 (per entry)

All scored content must be created/assembled new for this round.

“Would You Please Refrain From Shifting Around Lest I Prick You With A Pin”

Dave frowned, but straightened anyway, attempting to keep still.

“Now if you could just tilt your head to the side like so..”

Rose’s cool fingers touched Dave’s jaw as she guided his head to the left. He puffed out his cheeks a bit as she rearranged the scarf draped around his neck, a concentrated look in her eyes, a pleased smile on her lips.

“ladies is this necessary ive got stuff to do you know”

Rose made eye contact with Kanaya and they grinned at each other. The troll removed the pin she held between her lips and replied with amusement in her voice.

“I Am Hesitant To Believe That Dave As You Said Earlier That You Have The Entire Day Off”

Dave sighed. This was supposed to be a day full of chilling, hanging around, playing videogames and working on his comics. Maybe watch a movie. Not standing model for his two girlfriends who were having far too much fun dressing him up and down.

“rose cant you like magic up a puppet to do this shit or something”
“Why, if I were capable of such sorcery I’d have no need of you at all.”

Dave snorted. He rolled his shoulders, instantly receiving a disapproving scowl from Kanaya. Rose noticed and couldn’t help but make Dave just a little bit more uncomfortable.

“I really would advise you not to move Dave, who knows what the consequences of Kanaya smelling your blood will be..”

Kanaya looked up surprised, but the knowing look in Rose’s eyes stopped her from letting Dave know there were no consequences to that; feeding simply didn’t work like that.

“youre not scaring me with that vampire shit”
“I already have.”

Dave’s eyes widened slightly as he realized that he was indeed standing still as a statue ever since the silent threat; he grunted in defeat.

“youre both impossible you know that”

Their delighted chuckles were sharp but graceful, and Dave felt the tiniest smirk creep around his lips.

Some time passed, and the ladies worked diligently on their costumes and accessories. After another hour Dave’s stance was slumped and his shoulders hung. His eyes were closed (watching Rose handling sharp needles around him became unnerving after a while) and his mind was wandering.

The feeling of soft lips on his cheek woke him up from his daydream, and he met Rose’s gaze from behind his shades. Kanaya started rubbing his back gently, and Dave breathed deeply.

“We Have Finished”
“All done.”

They spoke almost in unison, and Dave realized he would never get over how perfect they were; not only for each other, but for him too.

“so you gonna let me go now or what”

“No”
“Never.”

The corners of his mouth moved up and he returned the next kiss he received, one hand moving back to touch Kanaya’s upper leg while the other snuck around Rose’s waist.

While Dave always claims he can never refuse them anything, he could if he really wanted to. Fact was that Lalonde and Maryam made sure to compensate him properly for his efforts, and Dave was not the kind of man to turn down a good offer.

“whose idea was this”
“Does it really matter.”

Instead of answering, he pulled Rose closer and guided her into a gentle turn. She held onto him and swayed around him flawlessly, her feet light on the crumbling ground.

It didn’t matter.

Her face was veiled by a thin sheen of soot, her eyes were striking and beautiful. Both his shades and his lips were cracked. Around them Earth was burning down.

Their only rhythm was the raging fire; their only beat was the one in their hearts. The heat of the burning meteors was constricting, and had them fighting for every breath they took.

Dave was certain there was something ironic about this, as her hand moved loosely in his while she spun.

“Dave?”
“sup”
“Are you scared?”
“im fucking terrified”

Rose made a sound akin to a giggle, to mask a choked sob. Both of them didn’t miss a single step as they maneuvered their way around the flames and ruins.

“One would think that after the green sun, nothing would be able to phase us.”
“we werent chestnuts roasting on an open fire then” He grinned at her; she couldn’t help herself and smiled back.

“Do you..” She started, but she inhaled too much smoke and had to cough before she could continue. Dave waited patiently as the two made another turn. “Do you have any regrets?”

“no”

There wasn’t a second that passed between her question and his answer.

“what about you”

Her grip on him grew the smallest bit stronger and she shook her head.

“None whatsoever.”

Dave pulled Rose in closer. She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her watering eyes. He sang to her in whispers.

In the midst of complete and total chaos, they shared a moment of peace. Nowhere to go, no one to chase them through time and space. No friends to protect, guardians to lose or demons to kill. It was just them.

Dave Strider and Rose Lalonde, dancing at the end of the world.
