Mobius Double Reacharound FST - Revisited



Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 4! Bringing back a favourite from last year! (Sorry for the delay, we're very busy!)

Here’s how this is going to work: somebody will submit a selection of 3-6 songs without comment. Then somebody else will come along and create a companion fanwork to fit the soundtrack!

Rules
  1. If you are submitting a soundtrack: submit only the track listing and download or youtube links. The idea is that people should ~interpret~ your selections!

  2. You are not allowed to fill soundtrack prompts with your team's ship, nor are you allowed to fill your own soundtracks. (Filling your team's soundtracks is okay!)

  3. Soundtracks count for 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.

  4. Fills may be in whatever format you choose (except FST, of course) so long as they link the songs by mood and/or lyrics in some kind of narrative.

  5. Post your fill as a comment to the prompt post, using the title format described below.

  6. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EST August 3rd.

This ended up being largely about death. Death and Narnia. I'm not sure how it ended up like it is. At all. I'm sorry if this wasn't what you were hoping for.

They had stayed up too late, talking too long, laughing too much. (Although, the laughing was more prevalent from one side than the other.) It had been a normal night. "Well obviously it'll end with you scooping us all up upon your valiant steed. We'll ride into the sunset and live happily as the heroes of the land." Roxy had said. Then fit of laughter from her. "Of course we'll only be crowned temporarily. One day we'll grow too old for Narnia."

"Right. I guarantee you that no matter what happens, we'll live long enough to outgrow Narnia." Dirk had said.

Roxy smile faded to just having one upturned cheek and she nodded. "'O course ya will. And on the off-chance you fail, I'll bribe your executioner to give you a quick death. See, I know you'll end up executioned because you are a great and noble rebel. And the enemy will want to kill you on a platform. Make an example of you."

"Goddammit, Rox. I'm trying to make you a promise and you turn dark on me outta nowhere."

"I'm sorry. I was just... you're right. We WILL live that long. I think I'm gonna grab a drink an' go to bed."

While they did live long enough to outgrow Narnia, they didn't outgrow their friendship. While they beat the game, they didn't outgrow mortality. While she would cry harder than he could make her laugh, she wasn't left empty.

Once upon a time, they had fought away each other's uncertainty that they would live this long. Then they'd made it as far as they'd dreamed to, though it was nothing like their dreams. And he had died when he was content with his life. That was about the best thing they could've dared dream of.

Jake always looks forwards to the dreams of him.

They are dreams that are different than other dreams, they feel more real than they should. The colors are more vibrant, things smell like they should and feel like they should. When he looks at the numbers of a clock they are actual numbers, his reflection isn't flawed in mirrors or lakes. And always, always there is the boy with white blonde hair and pointed dark glasses.

When Jake claps him on the shoulder he feels like Jake thinks a human should feel. He hasn't touched one in years, since his grandmother's death. His laugh is deep and he has all kinds of subtle expressions Jake has never seen in his movies.

When Jake is frustrated, or just in the mood for fighting, the boy pulls out a sword and beacons him, they fight fights that have none of the danger of his desperate scrambles against the monsters on his island. His sword never nicks Jake and Jake's bullets never catch him or hurt him.

When Jake is excited the boy will sit and listen, interjecting a question here, or teasing for something else there. When Jake is sad the boy will talk about strange worlds or movies that don't exist. He'll speak of impossible sci-fi robotics and aliens. The backdrop for Jake's dreams are always varied and fantastical. From a cafe or a restaurant, to a mountain or a castle.

He grows with Jake until he is tall and glorious. Jake is stockier than him, but the boy almost always wins their fights. He has an impossible grace in all his movements, a handsome face and a smile as blindly bright as it is rare. Once he took off his glasses for Jake, warning that next time it wouldn't be so easy to get them off, and his eyes were vibrant and orange, framed by long white lashes. Jake has been trying to get his glasses off without success since.

Jake never has gotten his name. Every time he means to ask the boy will turn to him with that subtle smile, and say "Good morning, English."

And Jake will wake up the question still on his lips.

Jade looked up at him, his feathers ruffling about his neck as he stared through his shades to meet her gaze.

"You know that I love you. You know that! Why are you asking so much of me?"

Davesprite closed his eyes against her words, trying to create a clear thought. "Because I'm so fucking scared of losing you, okay? I'm not the real Dave, who's to say you won't just leave me for the real thing when he shows up!"

She blinked at him before frowning and setting her jaw. "Do you honestly think I'd do that? There's two Daves, but they're different people. I don't love the other Dave, I love you."

He floated in circles around her for a long second, and balled his fists. "I just can't be sure. A lot of shit happens. Things get fucked up and shit happens, and then there's another couple with one more lonely orange floating asshole."

"If you have this much fucking doubt about how I feel, then maybe we need to leave each other alone for a while! Let's see how you feel after that! I'm tired of hearing stream after stream of you doubting me- I'm not going to put up with it!"

He recoiled, feeling the anger in her words. It felt as though she had slapped him. "Maybe we should! God, I don't know!"

Jade crossed her arms. "Fine. I'll see you around, Dave." She walked off, in the direction of one of her many labs.

Dave slumped to the floor (as much as a floating sprite can slump) and removed his sunglasses. He watched her walk away from him, and felt the tugging in his chest. All he had asked for was a confirmation of her feelings towards him- was that so fucking much to ask?

Was this goodbye?

Had he screwed up whatever happiness she had given him, the love he had felt?

Would she come back to him?
