BONUS ROUND 4
Bonus Round 4
Mobius Double Reacharound FST - Revisited
Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 4! Bringing back a favourite from last year! (Sorry for the delay, we're very busy!)
Here’s how this is going to work: somebody will submit a selection of 3-6 songs without comment. Then somebody else will come along and create a companion fanwork to fit the soundtrack!
Rules
- If you are submitting a soundtrack: submit only the track listing and download or youtube links. The idea is that people should ~interpret~ your selections!
- You are not allowed to fill soundtrack prompts with your team's ship, nor are you allowed to fill your own soundtracks. (Filling your team's soundtracks is okay!)
- Soundtracks count for 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.
- Fills may be in whatever format you choose (except FST, of course) so long as they link the songs by mood and/or lyrics in some kind of narrative.
- Post your fill as a comment to the prompt post, using the title format described below.
- This challenge will run until 11:59PM EST August 3rd.
Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
If you are filling a prompt, use this format in your title.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.

SOUNDTRACK: TEAM JOHN<3KARKAT
Boats and Birds - Gregory and the Hawk
The Girl - City and Colour
FILL: TEAM KARKAT<3KARKAT
After Sburb, Jane came to New York to live with Roxy and Rose for a while. They all did, one after one. Dirk was the first, showing up on their doorstep only a few days after – well, after - mostly for her benefit, she thought. He brought the robots. She hugged all three of them tightly.
They keep trickling in at uneven intervals, old friends and family members. A few days after Dirk claimed the bedroom next to Roxy's, but ended up sleeping next to her in her bed, (Sawtooth and Squarewave were curled up on the floor like cats, charging,) Dave called, asking if someone could pick him up at the airport. They all went. When they came back, Roxy showed him around their house; Rose's house, their house, in a universe none of them grew up in. There were bedrooms enough for everybody and their alternate universe grandparents, and a fancy ass kitchen and dining room. Rose told Roxy that she and her mom used to eat there, sometimes. Roxy used to mostly eat in the lab.
A few weeks later, Jake announced over Pesterchum that he was coming to visit them, if that was all right? It was. He never left, other than for walks in the woods; solitary trips to the cinema. Dirk did all the grocery shopping. Sometimes he and Roxy would cook, and by their powers combined they managed to achieve some kind of Sunday dinner. Normalcy. They tried eating at the table, instead of in front of a screen, like they were used to. It felt like being in one of Jake's movies.
John and Jake were next, and Roxy was glad, because they were total cuties and loved her video game collection, but it made it that much more obvious that there was one person that still wasn't there. Someone who should have been.
They didn't go to school. It was like they didn't exist on paper. John talked about going back, sometimes, but they never got around to it. Generally they spent their days gaming, reading, talking, working on little projects. Sometimes Roxy would go on Pesterchum and talk to Jane. She'd stopped asking her to come over after Jane said no for the third time. She had said she still had things to take care of where she was :B. Once, Roxy would have asked what things Jane had to take care of. As it was, she just changed the subject.
Sometimes Roxy dreamed about her, looking into those blue eyes as Jane leaned down to touch her lips to Roxy's, dark hair threatening to fall into her eyes. Sometimes Roxy saw her dead body, blood spreading from the hole in her torso, coloring her shirt dark red. Her eyes closed behind the glasses, all peaceful-like. Roxy would reach out and touch the blood, try to kiss those death-pale lips, and find that she couldn't. Sometimes when she woke up, Dirk would be there, holding her. Sometimes he wasn't. She would get out of bed quietly, find the liquor cabinet in the same place it used to be when she was growing up. Sometimes she would meet Rose. Sometimes her eyes would be red. Baby, what's wrong, she wanted to ask, but they didn't want to wake anyone up, so Roxy just nodded. Went back to her room. Usually she would go check Pesterchum, see who was on. Jane was rarely on anymore.
The summer was cold that year. Dirk and Dave were glad for that. Roxy didn't really care. She's always spent her summers inside. It was a particularly bad day; early August, but rainy and chilly like it was fucking November, and she was on the sofa in the living room with her laptop. A bunch of them had gone to see the matinee showing of something or other, she couldn't remember. She took another sip of her martini, arranged the laptop more comfortably on her stomach. Jane was on Pesterchum.
TG: hey
GG: Hello, Roxy! :B
TG: hwo are you
TG: *how
GG: To be honest with you, I have been better.
TG: why whats wrogn
TG: *erong
TG: *wrong
GG: Roxy, would you mind terribly if I came to stay with you for a while?
Roxy didn't mind in the slightest. When Jane signed off, she quickly emptied her glass and went into the kitchen to set it to soak in the sink. She grabbed a black garbage bag and went through the kitchen, dining room and living room, picking up the trash. She tied the bag shut with a small ribbon, and went into the rain to throw it out. It only took about half a minute for her shirt to be soaked through. She ran inside, shivering, took it off before going to sleep on the sofa, pulling one of Rose's blankets around her. She dreamt about blood, but she woke up smiling.
Jane's plane arrived late. Roxy, Jake and Dirk were standing in the waiting area, Dirk holding a pony covered sign that read JANEY CROCKER. Even inside the noisy airport, it was like they could feel the rain thrumming against the roof and the asphalt below. When she came towards them, only carrying a small suitcase. Jake hugged her first. They all held hands as they walked to the car, Jane between Roxy and Dirk, Jake insisting on carrying her luggage.
On the ride home, they talked about what they were having for dinner. Jane promised to bake a cake. Roxy leaned back against her seat, closed her eyes and just listened to her friends. When they stopped the car outside the house, Jake shook her shoulder gently to wake her up. She smiled at him.
Roxy insisted that Jane should sleep in her room, at least the first night. They never got to have a real sleepover before; it was about fucking time. Roxy cleared the floor a little bit, kicked plusies and game cartridges under her desk before she laid out a mattress on the floor next to her bed, just in case.
They all had dinner at the table again that night; it had been almost two weeks since the last time. Roxy watched Jane as she ate; her hair had grown longer, almost reaching her shoulders, and she looked just a smidge paler than she used to be. The others asked her questions about her house, about the trip, about whether they should watch some Poirot later that evening. It stopped raining.
When it became dark, the others started going to their rooms uncharacteristically early. Roxy wonder whether they'd agreed to give her and Janey some alone time. They were in the kitchen, putting plates in the dishwasher for the first time in weeks. Roxy had run out of things to say. Jane eyed her warily, like a scared bunny or some shit. Roxy walked closer. Wrapped her arms around her. She was taller.
“I missed you,” she whispered into Jane's neck. She smelled a little like cake frosting.
“Do you want to cut my hair?” Jane asked.
They did it in the bathroom on the second floor. Jane sat on the edge of the bathtub, Roxy kneeling in front of her as she trimmed her bangs.
“Shorter,” Jane whispered when Roxy showed her her reflection. So Roxy cut shorter. The scissors seemed so loud against the quiet house, metal clacking together, hair falling against porcelain, she was surprised no one came in to see. They hadn't locked the door. In the end Roxy took her razor from the shelf above the tub and shaved off all the hair on Jane's left side. She took Jane's hand, raised her up to stand next to her in front of the mirror. She looked older and younger all at the same time.
“Do you like it?” Roxy asked, meeting those blue eyes in the mirror.
“I do,” Jane replied, quietly smiling, “let's get some sleep.”
Roxy filled the tub with water, let Jane's hair wash down the drain before she brushed her teeth and went to bed. Jane was already lying in her bed, face against the pillow.
It was still dark when Roxy woke up. Jane had stolen the covers, they were wrapped around her as she lay dangerously close to the edge of the queen size bed. Roxy leaned over to look at her. She was such a quiet sleeper, completely still now that she had found an apparently comfortable position. It was the first time Roxy saw her without her glasses. A few strands of hair were still on her cheek from when she cut them, and Roxy carefully brushed them off. Sighed. Wrestled a bit of blanket from Janey, settled back down against her back. Went back to sleep.
In the morning, Jane made breakfast for everyone before anyone had even woken up. Roxy sat on the kitchen counter, watching and handing her eggs. Jane was wearing one of Jade's dresses, it fit her horribly, but she still looked beautiful. They talked about going outside for a picnic, maybe bring some cupcakes. In the end, they ended up eating the cupcakes on the couch during a Mario Kart tournament. Roxy beat everyone. Jane came in last every time. They all took turns touching her hair.
It was Jade who decided they should have a totally wild party, and Roxy immediately supported the decision. Hell yes. The house held enough alcohol to last them a thousand parties, but the boys bought a some beers, and soda and fruit juice to mix with the liquor. Roxy danced with her mom and her brother and once, while everyone else were outside drunkenly stargazing, with Jane.
They left someone's iPod playing, you don't remember whose, and the song that came on was soft and sad and when Jane got up to follow the others Roxy took hands instead and they waltzed around the living room, narrowly avoiding crashing into the giant tv Jake bought last week. The song didn't fit their dance at all.
Little by little, they stilled, holding each other up, listening to their friends outside. Holding each other.
“Roxy, I am ever so tired,” Jane said. So Roxy took her upstairs, laid her on the bed. Laid down next to her. There was no way she would be able to sleep, but she was afraid that if she didn't watch carefully, Jane might leave.
That night Roxy dreamed the corpse dream again, but this time it was different. Jane was lying in her bed, blood draining her sheets. She took her glasses and laid them on the nightstand. Put one hand carefully on Jane's stomach, touching the bloody edges of the wound. Her face was pale, but she was smiling, like she was dreaming something nice. Roxy touched her hand to Jane's lips, the blood on her fingertips painting them red. She licked her index finger. It tasted more like vodka than blood. She leaned down, blood pounding in her ears. Fuck. She shouldn't do this. She couldn't not do this. Jane's life was at stake. When she woke up, she was crying. Jane was still sleeping peacefully beside her. Roxy leaned over to take a look.
Quiet quiet sleeper. If she was breathing, Roxt couldn't see or hear it. She almost wondered if Jane had died in her sleep, or in Roxy's sleep, if this was still one of her dreams. Then, without warning, her eyes opened, meeting Roxy's. She sat up so fast she almost crashed into Roxy, leaning over her. The first kiss was all teeth and noses; the second was softer, longer. Roxy lifted her hands to Jane's hair, the stubble on the left side and the short waves on the right. She laid down, pulling Jane with her by her head, her lips, her tongue. When she opened her eyes, Jane was still watching her; stroking her shoulders; unsure. The kisses grew shorter, shallower, until Roxy arched up to plant one on Jane's nose. They stayed like that, forehead to forehead, alcohol breath mingling, for a long time. Eventually Roxy let herself close her eyes.
The next morning, Jane asked if someone could drive her to the airport. Jake took her, the rest of them staying on the couch to watch reruns of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Roxy could have sworn Dirk cried a little. She did too.
When Roxy signed into Pesterchum that night, gutsyGumshoe had disappeared from her contact list. Jake said she was going on an adventure. Roxy hoped whatever it was would make her happy.
