BONUS ROUND 1

Bonus Round 1

Genre-Mixing

Hey, shippers! Welcome to your very first bonus round proper--we hope you have lots of fun with it! This time around we're going to be asking you to mix it up a little--each fanwork posted for this round will be a mish-mash of two different genres, blended together in a delightful incestuous slurry to create an UNSTOPPABLE CREATIVE CONCOCTION--er. Or. Something.

Yeah, we're genre-mixing. That's what we're doing this round.

Rules
  1. Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of two different genres and one ship. This cannot be your team's ship! These are worth 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.

  2. Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!

  3. You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.

  4. Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.

Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

If you are filling a prompt, use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
For prompt posts: 5 points each (maximum of 100 per team)

For fills (as stated here):
First 5 entries in each post: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10 in each post: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15 in each post: 10 (per entry)

All scored content must be created/assembled new for this round.

If you have any questions, please ask them at the FAQ post here, or email them to us (homestuck.shipping at gmail). Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that we will see them in a timely fashion!

Sorry it's not very long (or very good), it's just a quick little fluffball.

“Daddy, daddy! Read us a story?”

John turned around in the doorway, his hand hovering over the light switch. He had every intention of telling the kids to go to sleep, but he just couldn’t resist the way his daughter was looking at him with her big blue eyes, and he sighed.

“Alright, fine. Just one, though!” he told her, pulling up a chair next to her bed. She clapped her hands in delight and sat up attentively against her pillow.

“Me too, me too!” another voice chimed in. Dave had dropped his son off for a few days while he was on a trip, a small boy with red hair and freckles who went by the name Nak for reasons no one really understood. He clambered from his bed onto Casey’s and got under the covers next to her.

John couldn’t help but chuckle at the eager looks on their faces. “Okay, so how about instead of reading you a story you’ve already heard before, I can tell you a new one instead?”

“Can it be a fairytale? With a princess?” Casey asked.

“If there’s a princess, you gotta have a dragon too!” Nak insisted.

John shrugged. “Sure, I can do that.” The kids grinned, and he settled himself in his seat and looked intently at them, getting into the mood.

“Once upon a time, there were four kids.”

“Who were they?? Is one of them the princess??” Casey interrupted excitedly.

John laughed and put his finger to his mouth. “I’m getting there, you sillypants!” Casey nodded and zipped her lips.

“Now. As I was saying. There were four kids, and they were the best of friends! They lived on opposite corners of the world, but it didn’t matter, because they were so close! One day, they decided to play a game. Little did they know how big the consequences would be!”

Nak sighed and leaned backwards. “This is booooring. When does the good part come?”

John just smiled at him, his eyes sparkling mischievously. “Oh, trust me. It’s about to get good.”

“When they started the game, it pulled them into an whole new dimension, way out in space!” This caught Nak’s attention, and he leaned forward. “They each had their own planets, too. Each planet was home to friendly little creatures, like yellow salamanders and red crocodiles!”

Casey let out an excited squeal and hugged her yellow salamander plushie close. Nak looked to his bed, where his red crocodile had been abandoned. Rather than getting up to retrieve it, he chose to cling to Casey’s arm instead. She didn’t seem to mind.

“There was also a light planet and a dark planet, caught in a terrible war. Each planet had a king and a queen, and although neither pair had any children, the moon of each planet held towers where copies of the four kids slept in royal comfort, like princes and princesses.” Casey’s eyes lit up, and in her excitement, she clutched at Nak’s hand. He didn’t seem to mind, either.

“But it wasn’t all fun and games! This was a war, and there were many terrible monsters and dragons to fight!” Nak grinned, satisfied by the addition of this detail. “The kids had a very important job to do. They needed to save the universe! Luckily, they made some alien friends who helped them along the way.”

“Aliens?!?” Nak exclaimed.

“Wow!” Casey added.

John nodded. “Aliens! You betcha!”

“Well, did they do it? Did they save the universe??” Nak asked. Casey watched her father with wide eyes, still holding tight to the redhead’s hand.

“Did they? I guess you’ll have to wait till tomorrow night to find out!” John grinned, getting to his feet and pushing the chair back.

“Awwwwww!” they cried in unison.

“But I’m not tired!” Casey protested, even as she leaned back into the pillow.

“Me neither!” Nak agreed, though the final syllable was pierced by a big yawn.

John just smiled and leaned forward, kissing them each on the forehead and pulling the covers up tightly around them. “Goodnight, kids.”

They sighed heavily and gave in, wiggling down under the blankets. “Goodnight,” the pair replied. John turned the light off and gave them one last smile before closing the door, being sure to leave it open a crack (in case of monsters, of course) as the two children curled into each other, snuggling their way into the warm arms of sleep.
