Hey, shippers! This is the last bonus round, which we’re all very sad about. So let’s talk about some of the awesome stuff created throughout the HSO!

Rules

Rec 1: The Frost Witch and the Lady of Thorns

Why I’m recommending it: As cliché as it sounds and just got sucked into this story and trapped there and couldn't move until it was done. It was beautiful, the scatters of their past, the descriptions of Jade growing frail, her plant still growing. The art too was stunning and fitting too. The mood was also fantastic, making me feel sad yet not a tear-jerking-fake-tears kind of way, which doesn't happen often. A+++!!!

Rec 2: Siren's Song

Why I’m recommending it: Not many teams submitted videos or songs for any of the prompts (of course there were a few very beautiful ones!) so I loved seeing this combo show up in Round 2. It's a very beautiful atmosphere the art, song, sound of the sea and the voice bring. It would not be nearly as good with any of those elements missing. Not to mention it stayed with the prompt of 'monster' but still kept the romantic feeling of it -- quite impressive given how short the video is! A very very wonderful entry! :D

Rec 3: Sweet, Salty, Sour

Why I’m recommending it: An extremely beautiful work of writing. I felt it was really fleshed out and tons of different aspects were brought into the story. I loved Vriska and Feferis relationship -- it was really sweet and heart warming even with the hardships they are going through. Although my favourite part of the whole story was learning about Eridan and Feferi's past. That was the straw that broke the camels back, if the camel was my heart.

Why I’m recommending it: This picture is just so lovely. There's something haunting about the composition and the colors that really sets the mood and goes along with the music. And the caption adds a whole new layer to it! I just keep coming back to stare at it, and I think that says something!!

Rec 2: Untitled

Why I’m recommending it: This is a real case of working with the music, everything here goes so well with the music prompt and yet works perfect on it's own. The descriptors in this fic are lovely and Dave and Terezi are just wonderful. The 'long route home' had me smiling, because even if it wasn't perfect it was at the same time. I really enjoyed reading this one!!!

Rec 3: Gambling: A Powerpoint

Why I’m recommending it: Cute, cute, cute. Like I can't repeat that enough in regards to this entry. The art at the end had me grinning like a loon and the use of the powerpoint was brilliant! I was killing myself over watching the powerpoint and laughing like a madwoman. If that isn't a recommendation with flying colors, well then I don't know what is.

Why I’m recommending it: This is such a well-put together entry; you can see the collaboration but at the same time it looks and reads like an independent piece, which I think is excellent! The illustrations are beautiful, the writing and characterization are great, and I love the concept. Plus I'm a huge sucker for blonde!Vriska u__u

Rec 2: Not Lookin' at the Floorbutt

Creator: Collab Round Entry
Why I’m recommending it: This team has consistently had really fun, sweet, and in-character entries, and this is no exception! I really loved the visual novel, the pixelings and illustrations were really well-done, and the dialogue between the two of them was so much fun to read. I especially enjoyed Auto's joke, haha. I also liked that they incorporated the theme in the fact that there was actually a break in the pattern in the code Roxy send Auto.

Rec 3: Gather Up Its Harm And Gods

Why I’m recommending it: Everything about this entry is just so beautiful. The illustrations are amazing, and the writing is so sublime and detailed and supple wow I just really enjoyed reading this a lot! There were times I re-read bits and pieces of the story as I went on because of all the different layers in the writing. A really great read with really beautiful art!

Why I’m recommending it: If you like Stridercest and/or crossdressing Dave then this is probably an entry you need to see. NOW. (Just stop reading and go click the link you don’t need to read anything else I have to say.) Everything about this picture is great. The anatomy, the colors, the poses, the clothes, Dave’s awesome heels and bunny suit, the details. If a picture is worth a thousand words then I’m 100% certain this one is actually worth two thousand and it comes prepackaged with a monologue from Dave himself: “Yeah, I’m working this bunny suit and my ass is looking hella fly. Got a problem with that? I didn’t fucking think so.”

Rec 2: Just Jump

Why I'm recommending it: In my personal opinion I thought this was one of the best entries out of the entirety of HSO. I don’t even think I considered the interactions between Alpha!Dave and Alpha!Rose too much before viewing this entry but if you have an interest in the characters or in shipping them I think you’ll find that it will completely blow you away. The visuals, the writing, and the presentation of the entry are all top notch and it deserves all the recognition it can get.

Why I’m recommending it: This is one of the more unique entries I had the pleasure of viewing during the HSO, except for the parting about viewing because it's all about listening! What in the world am I talking about? I'm talking the fact that this is an actual audio post. (?!!???!) John's voice is just too cute! (And hilarious when juxtaposed with the NSFW monologue he ventures into describing what he and Dad have been up to in Vegas.)

Why I’m recommending it: It's really cute, the theme here is wonderful the colors and lines just are so easy on the eyes. It's a really great piece of art and you can just tell the person drawing this is super talented. It's great, cute, and wonderful.

Why I’m recommending it: It has my favorite thing ever, girls in pretty dresses. Calliope and Roxy look so happy and like they're having a great time. Who couldn't love these cute girls!

I was the artist for the Eridan<3Sollux entry you rec'd and even though full credit for the flawless story, characterization and execution definitely goes to the writer, I am completely flattered to have been any part of that experience for you. Just wow, she's going to be so thrilled to read this!

Thank you so much for the Bro<3Grandpa rec! It means a lot to us, and I love seeing the reactions it's been getting. I figured I should say a bit about the thought process behind the card game since you seemed curious. You are correct that the starting point was Hearts. It's very simplified/stripped-down from what Windows Hearts players might be familiar with, because A. we didn't want to force the player to memorize a bunch of new rules just for that one segment of the flash, and B. I didn't have the time to program that stuff anyway. The only other modifications to the basic game were penalizing spades, especially the Jack of Spades, instead of hearts (so DD could make that crack at Jack's expense), and some modifications to the points system so the game would be shorter but still balanced (a genuine Hearts game takes, like, 30-60 minutes at least, which would be way too long compared to the rest of the flash). I'm glad you liked it!
