Hey, shippers! This is the last bonus round, which we’re all very sad about. So let’s talk about some of the awesome stuff created throughout the HSO!

Bonus Round 1 Goodness!

Rec 1: john<3dave<3rose<3jade post-apocalyptic + road trip!

Why I’m recommending it: Even though we've seen how the kids get by when the world ends in comic, this does a spectacular job of showing what they would act like when the end of the world has happened and they're still there. The characterization is absolutely spot on, and absolutely heart-breaking at times. It's so clear that they're still just kids, trying to make the best of a crappy situation. It also manages to be so heartwarmingly light-hearted, even as they're driving through decimated towns, that it's impossible not to love the fic.

Rec 2: Signless<3Disciple, absurdism, 12-step guide

Why I’m recommending it: There is something indescribable about this fic which makes it wonderful. Despite the fact that it is mostly about setting up a room with a bunch of furniture, there is a story to it, which I picked up when I read without even realizing. There's a lovely repetition with looping circles as well, which is broken with the ending and the text suddenly aligned to the right in step 12 is an excellent break in the tone. Overall, simply spectacular.

Rec 3: Aradia<>Sollux, paranormal romance + slice of life

Why I’m recommending it: The concept for the picture is just too charming - "Casual coffee break with your sweetheart." The style is absolutely adorable, and the atmosphere is great. I think it's impossible not to smile at least a little bit when seeing this.

Rec 4: Davesprite<3Jade - Body horror/Comfort

Why I’m recommending it: The electronic side of Davesprite is explored here in a way that is simultaneously heartbreaking and fascinating. All of the descriptions of pixels breaking down creates a beautiful image and makes for a great overall atmosphere. It's an absolutely breathtaking short fic, and a fabulous concept as well.
