Hey, shippers! This is the last bonus round, which we’re all very sad about. So let’s talk about some of the awesome stuff created throughout the HSO!

Why I’m recommending it: This entry wins the Dragon_Bagon, Best Game Of This Hso Award! From a failure of an assassin to a cruse gone wrong, everything is absolutely hilarious. Yet, the game still has plenty of heart to it, making it an enjoyable ride indeed!

Why I’m recommending it: Why hello there fanfic I could easily see as a short novel. You sure are great. The plot of this was well put together, and all the different writer's parts mesh beautifully. Not to mention the lovely art throughout!

Why I’m recommending it: Okay, this is one of my favourite things to come out of the HSO. It's a stream of loopy laconic weirdness, and it's a pure joy to read (She tiger-stances right over the desk and tackles you and drubs the shit out of you and drubs the shit out of other things with you and then hangs you out the window upside-down by your tail until you crack and tell her where you hid the money and what your real name is and that you're the Batman). Stylish as hell. Worst doctors, best team.

Why I’m recommending it: Pure unrestrained eroticism. There are flaxen manes and quazing loins and Terezi busting into a weed farm, what more do you want? Contains what must be one of the greatest lines ever: "he thought, panting and unravelled, that in a way, they were both blind – she from severe retinal burns, but he from desire." 5/5 fierce primal urges.

Why I’m recommending it: You know how sometimes you read something and you can just instantly picture it? Spades Slick makes the worst magical girl ever, but certainly a very entertaining one. Snowman would pull a stunt like that, too.

Why I’m recommending it: Two sad kids trying to make the best of their doomed timeline. This is lovely and calm, and somehow really sweet. I love the strange domesticness of it, with the little mentions of things like Dirk not knowing not to eat margarine, and dealing with the balloons.

Why I’m recommending it: This was a lot of fun! The world building was exquisite, the characterization spot on, and the pacing was wonderful. The characters are all mythological creatures and interact differently because of it, but it's not hard to see their canon personalities shine through anyway.

Why I’m recommending it: Now, come on. Dave Strider, vampire hunter? How could I not recommend this? :) My favorite part of this is the cliche-busting bit of the vampiric romance. This is no Twilight, and Dave is no Anita Blake. This is fun, light, and delightfully in character. GOOD FILL.

Rec 3: The Myth of Persollux and Megidusa

Why I’m recommending it: This is literally the best piece I have seen this year for the HSO, not gonna lie. I'm sure this has been recced already 100 times, but there is just nothing not perfect about this. Greek mythology buff? Get on this. The story is lovely, the characterization spot on, the art is wonderful, and it's even funny to boot. Do yourself a favor and read this at least seven times, if you haven't already.

Why I’m recommending it: THE CHARACTERIZATION! This fic has PERFECT characterization all around. The artwork is also wonderful and completely fitting to the mood of the story. And the ending was the best part of it. :)

Rec 5: How to Cheat at Cards for Fun and profit

Why I’m recommending it: Oops, reccing this team again. OH WELL. This is an excellent, funny fic with, as you might have guessed is my kink by now, PERFECT CHARACTERIZATION. Not to mention, this was so much fun to read! The artwork is enchanting. The story is perfect. Everything is so great about this fic, I cannot even tell you.

Why I’m recommending it: This fic was a lot of fun!! I like how they were playing mario kart at the beginning, and the wager for winning was certainly interesting. Everything was really in character, and the art was fantastic!!

Why I’m recommending it: This was really cute!! Also kind of sad, but. All of the voices were very in-character, I think. The little things in both of the halves really brought it together, like John and Jade arguing about furry games. Or Karkat being upset with Dave for drawing dicks on his face. All in all, it was really good. And one year really isn't that long of a time.

Rec 3: Who You Gonna Call?

Why I’m recommending it: The art style was really cute!! The comic itself was put together nicely, and the actions of the characters{since there wasn't much dialogue outside of Karkat's narration} put together a nice story. The ending was nice, and I think this was just a really cute entry!!

Why I’m recommending it: To start off, the art was wonderful. It had such atmosphere and really enhanced the story. The fic was written beautifully. As usual from this team, Dave and Rose were completely spot-on. And I enjoyed the ending. I really liked it, just as much as I've liked this team's other entries.

Why I’m recommending it: I really like the journey this fic took. How Karkat started out believing there wasn't love for him, and by the end deciding maybe he could have love after all. And the ending was really good. The whole fic was really good, actually, but. Also, the art was fantastic. All in all, it was a really good fic.

Why I’m recommending it: This was really cute!! I liked how Karkat was a horrible jockey, and how Jade and John were sort of like a tag-team. And how, even though Karkat can't understand how anybody could actually seriously like him, he ends up going out with John and Jade anyway, because he starts to see that maybe these guys are serious. The art was really nice, and everything was just really cute!!

Why I’m recommending it: I was absolutely captivated the whole way through. How could I not be? Dave as a pizza delivery boy, his and Rose's romance--just everything was wonderful in the first half. The second half was also wonderful, but with a little more than a tinge of sadness. I especially liked the characterization--Dave and Rose were so in character and so real to me. Also. Okay: I NEED TO SAY THAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THE DIRK AND ROSE INTERACTION TO THE POINT WHERE I'M LUSTING FOR SOME FICS THAT FEATURE THESE TWO CHARACTERS, SO THANKS FOR THAT. XD

Rec 2: Poems and Illustrations: By Your Light

Why I’m recommending it: Man, who knew that the end of the world could be so goddamn beautiful. Just, the language. Each word felt incredibly necessary and useful and carefully plucked. I was absorbed right from the very beginning. The images were also extremely beautiful and I ended up staring at them for minutes at a time, haha.

Why I’m recommending it: This work was so charming, I couldn't even handle it. I loved how well-rounded this story was. It didn't just focus on Terezi and Sollux, it included Vriska, Eridan, and Feferi--all with development and importance. The writing was very smooth, descriptive and enjoyable. Sollux and Terezi's interactions were wonderful and eee they're such nerds. That last line!

ah thank you! fun fact: i was so aroused the entire time i wrote it that i kept taking short breaks just to have some water and do steady breathing, stop my hands trembling from sheer lust

Why I’m recommending it: There was so much contribution to BR0, but this one has to be my favorite. The colors are bright and the style is really cute. What did it for me was how simple the concept seems but how creative it really is. I don't think anyone else thought of depicting Jade and Feferi as cute animals (dog and cuttlefish respectively).

Why I’m recommending it: I really love this style! I especially like the stylization of the eyes. The colors are incredibly soft and almost seem to glow lightly. Even the handwriting matches the drawing. Simple, clean, and adorable.

Why I’m recommending it: I'm actually a fan of their artwork. I love the use of thin lines that flow well together. The use of textures in both banners really compliments it too. There's not an overuse of colors which is good because it keeps both drawings feeling really light. The anatomy is great too and it especially shows in the second banner.

Rec 1:Two Alien Girls Making Out on a Pile of Zombie Corpses

Why I’m recommending it: This does indeed deliver on its title! It's also adorable and macabre. Check out the little details, like Nepeta's claws stuck in the zombie's head. Yes, excellent. The muted green palette amps up the grody, dark zombie apocalypse feel, but also is a great contrast to the sheer darlingness.

Why I’m recommending it: The quickest way to get me interested in a horror story is to use one of my favorite monsters or spirits and GOD DAMMIT I LOVE DULLAHANS. The linework in this has such a nice heft, and I love the texture and softness of everything broken by the bright red. Those glares are INTENSE.

Why I’m recommending it: I voted for this entry because of those delicious lines. Furthermore I love the monster/creator relationship, especially how anguished Equius looks (whatta doofus) and how unexpectedly delicate Gamzee seems. There's a note of intrigue, too, in Aradia's shade, there in the portrait on the wall-- great detail.

Why I’m recommending it: These two are just precious. I adored their interactions and characterization. Putting it together in the MSPA format was really clever and fitting. The aberration was really heart-tugging too, and I liked how it wasn't just an event, it was a character development (at least, I hope I'm getting the aberration right XD). The art was also incredible and expressive--it really helped me empathize with the characters. Great job.

Why I’m recommending it: Okay, I really loved how heartwarming and simple and great this piece was. One of the commenters described it as 'refreshing' and I couldn't agree more. It was an immensely pleasant-to-read college/coffee shop AU. Sollux and Eridan are just adorable; they bicker, the compliment each other reluctantly (and unintentionally); they try to ignore their feelings--they're them. The art was stunning and I really liked Eridan and Sollux's human designs.

Rec 3: Call of Shakira: Gears of Jadekat

Why I’m recommending it: I had so much fun playing this--more fun than I can properly quantify. The talksprites WERE SO DETAILED AND AMAZING, YOU GUYS, and I had so much fun initiating conversations by standing on everyone's heads. The conversations between Jade and Karkat were fun, and I was floored at the addition of Nepeta and Terezi. Man, those dreambubbles brought back some memories. And when I wasn't being pleasantly assaulted with nostalgia, I was staring in amazement at those backgrounds! Seriously, that art was fucking beautiful--I was drooling from my eyes. Also, it must be team JadeKat's mission to make me ship Grandpa<3Crabdad, because that's a thing that is happening.

The artist did a great job with making the pokémon look like they should, but at the same time it's really easy to tell that it's John, Jade and Dave. And they look fucking adorable.

Why I’m recommending it: The layout is amazing. It branches out to show both sides of the "gamble" and ends up connecting. It tells a story just from a few panels and manages to capture perfect characterization. The kiss panels are also iconic kiss scenes (Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" and "V-J Day over Times Square"). The color palette matches so well to the layout. Overall, outstanding and creative.

Rec 2: Round 2: Hammer Horror Heuristics of the Haunted and Heinous

Why I’m recommending it: THEY MADE AN ENTIRE WEBSITE. The website layout comes straight out of the 90's which fits perfectly to the theme and the characters. It really does seem like a website John and Rose would create were they ghost hunters. It's adorable and funny. The more you click around, the more stuff you find. There's even a guestbook in which other characters show up. Witty. 4 stars.

Why I’m recommending it: This is actually one of my favorite fics from all the main rounds. The characterization between Slick and Snowman is spot-on. The pacing is great, the atmosphere is strong, and the pairing is, of course, dynamic. Slick's internal monologue compliments the chaos of the scene unfolding around him and he and Snowman end up creating their own private space in between it all.

Why I’m recommending it: How do you cross Tetris with homestuck? By turning the blocks into the Troll symbols. I liked how they managed to gel the two together in maybe not the most obvious way. Also, because the idea of the most impossible Tetris game ever is just funny.

Why I’m recommending it: Simply because it's beautifully drawn and coloured (fill is of the four alpha kids dressed as characters from Final Fantasy III). I especially like how the colours and highlights are used in the clothing- all the folds and creases stand out and it gives good bit of detail to the drawing that you can spend time looking over. Everything from their hair to the shading is polished and nicely done.

Why I’m recommending it: Okay so this was great HANDS DOWN AMAZING! I had so much fun playing it, the interactions made me laugh a whole lot. Like, Bros asking stuff and then it zooms in on Cal like Cal is answering and then like omfg you go and do stuff and also the card game with DD was great it was so funny I liked playing the game what game was that was that hearts or was that made up I have no idea. Ms. Paint is great, I love her and it was just so funny omg the puppets.

Why I’m recommending it: It made me too sad for words. Like, maybe not everyone but me I really love sad things there is no good ending to this. First off Karkat dies so beta-timeline everyone there is going to die how sad and Dave goes and saves Karkat so the alpha timeline is okay now but still that Dave is the Dave we play as so it's sad. I did all the options and they were all sad, the less sad one was when he just fought of Bec Noir but still how sad. I liked how Karkat got mad at Dave for not caring about other Dave how cute ily Karkat.

Why I’m recommending it: This was fun to play, I love fun things. I didn't make it to the end because I'm super bad at these types of games but I really liked how it was a competition. My favorite was being Terezi because short range is so hard omfg

Or maybe that's not quite what happens, who knows? ;3 Anyway, this fill is just so perfect and the writing is splendid. Features one crazy Dave-esque ramble, haha.

Why I’m recommending it: I love the door theme that this author established! And, wow, I just love everything about it--it's definitely surreal in not just content, but language. The dialogue is perfect; it's in-character and it's poignant. Each word, each line holds meaning and purpose, which is, of course, what a drabble is all about. It's also really sensual and the last line is killer.

Why I’m recommending it: The language, the descriptions, everything is beautiful. Describing Dirk as "slick black plastic and broken radio waves"? Holy fuck, hell yes. a;dkja;ldj That was an incredibly epic way with words. I also like the recurring theme of 'you' singular and 'you' plural. Plus the fact that Dirk and Bro are wryly amused over their shenanigans is hilarious and amazing and I just can't.

She is like whoa Karkat would love this sappy story must tell Karkat and it was so funny and I kept standing on peoples heads at first I thought I had to get on that ledge so I jumped on the first Karkats head and hopped up there man that was sort of amazing I really loved this whoa I loved it loved itttt.

Why I’m recommending it: I really liked the view into how the game could end up being, with both the humans and the trolls trapped in different universes, and trying to get both of them into one. All of the characters that were involved were spot on, I think. Overall, it was really good!!

Why I’m recommending it: I really liked the different endings for this. Even though they all had an element of sadness to them, but, even so. The dialogue seemed really in character, and the art was really nice!! This was a really well done entry!!

Rec 1: For Whom My Tears Have Made Me Blind

Why I’m recommending it: I had a lot of feelings reading this okay. The way that Dave was sacrificing himself and Rose's desperate bid to stop him from doing it was really heartwrenching for me! I loved how this makes the pairing work all ways, not with it just centering on one person getting love from the two others, but a real triangle. The supernatural element works with the story to tell the tale instead of dominating it. Perfect!!

Rec 2: The Centaur's Forest

Why I’m recommending it: Top notch art, top notch story!! There's a real fairy tale feel that permeates the story, suspending any disbelief the reader might have had, and really adding to the whole feel. It's also great to see the characters so in character despite the different setting, with Equius' awkwardness and Dirk's cunning really shining through! An absolute pleasure to both look at and read!

Why I’m recommending it: I knew this was going to be good as soon as I saw the lovely first picture and that Dirk was a vamp and Jake was a werewolf. I love how their relationship and trust really shines through in this story. It's short, but tightly knit with emotion and that essential trust that really makes you want them to be together. A great little read!

Why I’m recommending it: I am a complete sucker for the idea of 'love transcending universes' so of course I was automatically in love with the concept of this entry right away, haha. I loved how we got a bit of everything, writing, music, super sick rapping skills, art, and that the different pieces explored a ton of different universes and incarnations. (Plus, I'm not gonna lie, after I read "Best Friend" I bawled like a friggin baby.) Everything in this entry is just really really great!! uwu

Rec 2: Fuck Yeah, Adventure

Why I’m recommending it: This entry is just really really fun! The game itself is put together so nicely, and it's so interactive and clever. The writing was spot-on (I particularly enjoyed Ms Paint's lines) and the art is lovely. The plot itself was perfect and I loved the ending.

Rec 3: Call of Shakira: Gears of JadeKat

Why I’m recommending it: Despite having a wonderful concept, adorable art, and being all-around really fun entry, I think what I liked most about this entry was the writing and the characterizations! Jade and Karkat have a really complicated relationship in canon so I think it was really cool that this entry explored that, from their frustrations with each other to their strong friendship/relationship :)

Rec 1: Dave Strider and the Legend of the Wind King

Why I’m recommending it: This is EVERYTHING that I want my supernatural stories to be! It's steeped deep in a world that we want to explore with a romance build up that we also can't wait to see. The story telling in this is great and so is the art, I had to play through so many times just to get all the different pictures, but wow I did not mind at all! I may not be the largest shipper of this pairing but I think I'll be playing this game again and again because I just CAN NOT get enough of this super great story!!!

Rec 2: CRANK THAT BONER TIME

Why I’m recommending it: This is perfect okay?? The Dave<3Dave team has never failed to make me laugh this whole HSO and it this is no exception. The Sbahj world had me keeled over, my mom wanted to know why I was crying (hint: it was from laughter). Going through all the Dave's is a hilarious and perfect experience, though I confess that Sbahj+Grimdark were my absolute favourites. The art was gorgeous and the story was so campily over the top yet crazily and wonderfully in character that you can't help but love it for everything that it is. And just look at that title okay?? Everything you need to know about why you should check this out right now if you haven't. This is another story I don't think I'll be able to let go of for a loooong time!

Rec 3: Call of the Shakira: Gears of Karkat

Why I’m recommending it: This game has been getting a lot of attention, and it's all so well deserved! the sheer amount of WORK that had to have gone into this is phenomenal and it really pays off. The art is fantastic and adorable, the music is perfect from start to finish and the story is both bittersweet and heartwarming. I this best of all this really made me want the two characters to get together, and made me feel like they wanted to get together, while still keeping them in character. This is amazingly done and everyone should check it out!!

Why I’m recommending it: Are you even looking at the pairing? The pairing is why. It's so fucking hilarious--Serenity's waggling eyebrow and horrible pick up line! And wow the look on Hearts Boxcars' face is positively adorable and I'm not even a huge fan of his character. I also really like the art; I'm especially fond of the lighting. Everyone should look at this (but beware: it is a flashing gif). This is a masterpiece.

Why I’m recommending it: IT'S A MY LITTLE PONY AU. Like, the amount of detail that went into this in incredible, especially for a bonus round fill. First of all, it has a fucking prologue, and it's separated into three long comments of pony puns and magical creatures (Nepeta makes an appearance) and magical environments and Dirk and John being absolute dorks. I had so much fun reading through this--and the author also included images of pony versions of Bro and John hnnnnnnnnng. It's all about John's quest to get his cutie mark and you will not be disappointed.

Rec 3: BR1 Feferi<3Vriska fill

Why I’m recommending it: Feferi<3Vriska needs more support because it's pretty great. And this author perfectly establishes why that is--they are fantastic together. So snippy and energetic and perfect. The writing on this fill was really strong--suspenseful and captivating at the beginning, ridiculously hilarious at the end. It's the most perfect horror movie parody ever. The poor killer. He's just so clumsy. XD
