Hey, shippers! This is the last bonus round, which we’re all very sad about. So let’s talk about some of the awesome stuff created throughout the HSO!

Why I’m recommending it: This short and sweet fill was exactly what I was looking for when I made the prompt. I really like the light vagueness of it, it just seems to fit the atmosphere and the nsfw content well. The small bits of dialogue are great and spot on, the description creates a perfect visual, and of course: Titsflash Uniboob.

Why I’m recommending it: Wow this fill was just fantastic in all the ways. I've mostly only read about Dave and Rose when it comes to the alpha timeline but the way I think of it has changed thanks to this. Headcanon accepted. I love this portrayal of alpha!Jade and how she knows more than Rose does, for once. Of course it has to end sadly for all of them but for the small amount of time that they had together, they were happy to have each other.

Why I’m recommending it: I just love the kids and their instruments and this drawing is so adorable and fun. The expressions are perfect for their characters and Jade's hair looks great short like Rose's. The space dress is really cool too and wow I just can't get over how cute and happy they look together. This drawing is precious.

Why I’m recommending it: This piece gives me a lot of Disciple feels and I just want to hug her. Her face looks so fierce despite the tear tracks, because she's strong and she'll be strong for the Sufferer even after he's gone. The painted heart almost looks like claw marks at the ends, as if she's drawing strength from her love and as the lyrics say, she won't let losing him break her heart.

Why I’m recommending it: I feel like the flash type format is very creative!! The dialogue between the characters feels very in character, and was written well. Not to mention that the art is wonderful, and everything looks really nice in the finished product.

Why I’m recommending it: I really like the way that they went about this. I like how Dave, Rose, and Terezi's relationship evolved through all of the screwups, and how their characters evolved as well. How they kept trying, even when it seemed futile, because they couldn't just stop. I really like how it was written--it kept me interested the entire time--and the art was very nice as well.

Why I’m recommending it: These poems have amazing imagery. The different metaphors fit the characters perfectly, and I can see things clearly in my head. It's very imaginative, and I really like how it's presented.

Why I’m recommending it: I think this shows various outcomes of Eridan<3Roxy nicely. And I feel like they were mostly in character, and I like that they didn't just have "good" endings, that there were some less-than-ideal outcomes. I also like how Eridan made his own choice at the end, and decided to take a chance, instead of thinking about all the bad outcomes he saw. All in all, I think it was done nicely.

Why I’m recommending it: I love this fill's depiction of an integrated human/troll society. The attention to detail really makes the world come alive. The dialogue and narration are both beautifully written, and the characterization feels completely natural. The witty prose and neatly-stylized art make for a very fun read.

Why I’m recommending it: The sheer degree of heartwarming in this fill is incredible. Gamzee and Tavros look and act absolutely adorably, and the ending is perfectly romantic (guaranteed to make you "bawwwww" out loud). I love the interpretation of the "monsters" theme as well, and how it straddles the line between metaphorical and literal.

Why I’m recommending it: Only Dave Strider could have so much of his shit together and yet simultaneously be so bewildered with regards to his own time shenanigans. Dave's interaction with himself is a high point of this fill- the temporal separation make Past Dave and Future Dave seem like different characters, yet both undeniably (and hilariously) Dave. There's so many oh-so-quotable snippets of dialogue, and the comedic timing is perfect.

Why I'm recommending it: This starts off with the gang on their way to a suspicious sounding dinner party, which is pretty exciting enough, but then you find out that it's an awesome monster dinner party (if you're like me and skimmed the summary, hehehe). The writing's handled well and it's clear, even with so many characters and things going on. Enough to be an episode of a TV show actually! And it's hilarious how out of the loop Eridan is, ahaha, but he gets it together eventually yea.

Rec 2: The Weather in Europe

Why I'm recommending it: I spent like 20 minutes trying to put this fic into words and I have failed. ;v; Roxy and Dad's relationship just seemed so fragile, like it could tip at any moment. The way it's written makes me kind of sad for some reason, but the story ends with grace and hope and that makes me really, really happy!

Why I'm recommending it: (Sollux/Aradia) Aight, I prompted this one and jela totally slamdunked. The colors are just right and managed to catch that one weird Bioshock atmosphere where it's supposed to be homey but it isn't homey at all. It's at that angle where you could see all the cool pretty Raptureish things but you can also sense the background behind it. It's creepy, the atmosphere's great, and gosh I am hoping that these kids are going to turn the place upside down I am hoping so hard.

Why I’m recommending it: I've re-read this like ten times? Yeah, I really loved this a lot. The whole thing about Dirk keeping his promises, it's like Equius' whole thing with being honorable and stuff. I really enjoyed this, and the art was gorgeous!

Why I’m recommending it: My favorite thing is how well they filled the prompt. It's just a fanfiction but I enjoyed the side A side B thing so much it's ridiculous. It was just so cool and neat omfg I just loved it. I also read them in the wrong order and it still made sense, so anything you can do that with is A+!

Why I’m recommending it: I think this was the only thing the entire hso that ACTUALLY 100% made me cry. There were tears everywhere over this. Not only is it well written, but I really enjoyed the pictures and the storyline. I'm a huge fan of Grimkat every since the anti-homestuck blog to be honest. My God I love my some grimkat!

Why I’m recommending it: This entry is so fucking heartbreaking in the best possible way, but it's also incredibly hilarious. "I take my Shakespeare seriously as tits" is just one of the many examples. The dialogue is really, really good!! And the describey bits are just perfect. Also the illustrations fit really well and look nice and ahhhh.

Why I’m recommending it: Whoa, so I was shocked how much I like this. I feel like mentioning why is a thing I need to do. I had this pairing tumblr saviored, I really dislike it? And while I came in with a no bias policy on my part, and I was trying really hard to keep that up I wasn't sure I could get rid of it completely. I read it because I said I would be no biased. (There's a reason for me having it blocked, a very personal issue that has very little to do with the fictional characters or the pairings) Of course, hell was I surprised when I ended up voting for it in the end! I was really happy, I enjoyed this immensely and it was perfect to a T. I went back and told everyone (and tumblr) how much I liked it (everyone looked at me like I grew ten heads). The characterization was literally perfect, the story was simple and great. I enjoyed how Sollux realized he was being a douche, and how Eridan sort of opens up to him and then they're friends and wow it was so perfect. I'm extremely happy, and excited I enjoyed this whoa. The point of me mentioning the part about it being blocked is to just show you how wonderful this is. If I can admit that this is one of the best, well characterized, beautiful writings I've read in the entire HSO then it seriously is and everyone needs to go read it right now ASAP if they haven't. I can write a whole essay on this, my God did I love this I literally am going to marry it. Whoa, I hope it didn't hurt anyones feelings that I mentioned that, like I said it was a big personal reason (reminding me of people I know and it's bad bad memories, and therefor I just didn't think I could enjoy anything with them in it, whoa I'm glad I was wrong wow hugs and kisses all of you).

Why I’m recommending it: I never thought much about this pairing until I read this. The roles fit the characters so much and the way everything was described was just lovely. The whole fairytale style of writing is also amazing and so are the shadow puppet type illustrations. I was blown away when I was reading this entry and everything was a roller coaster of emotions.

Why I’m recommending it: the prompt was davesprite<>terezi, body horror vs. medical drama, and the fill is davesprite and terezi firing off puns and the slickest lines ive seen in forever while doing terrifying things to patients in their hospital. theyre both completely unhinged but everyones down with that, and id read a whole new-wave novel written like this. and on top of that, 'She looks up and there's toner on her tongue. You get the cheap shit, just for her' is my new favourite way to sum up dave and terezis relationship.

Rec 2: The Slitherbeast King Crowned in Joy and Splendor, All-Surpassing

Why I’m recommending it: it reads like raymond chandler on lsd and its perfect. the prompt was dualscar <3< darkleer, decadent lit vs. rock stars, and even when it trips out so hard youve got no real clue whats going on any more the writing is so smart it doesnt even matter. 'your eyeballs are individual messianic utopias with their own populations of transcendent machine elves that can't talk to each other' - i dont understand where such an immaculately insane imagination came from, but i am doing the opposite of complaining about it.

Why I’m recommending it: i knew i was going to love this from the very first lines: its a perfect ensemble fic with everyone ridiculously in character and ridiculously funny. highlights include 'WE HAVE A RIVALRY WITH THESE GUYS THAT IS AS LONG AND TORRID AS A MUSCLEBEAST'S BULGE', daves motivational team memo, jades shamelessly biased aggression as a sports commentator, and the skaia wolves' Startling Revelation. read it, its one of the funniest things ive seen all hso.

Why I’m recommending it: I wasn't really into this ship until I read this illustrated fanfic. The first thing you notice is the gorgeous art, put together in a way that fits so well in the story, even though the artists all used a different, personal style (which made it so much better and dynamic, imo). The story was thoroughly enjoyable, with funny and tender moments written in a way that matched the beautiful artworks perfectly. May I add this human Karkat was very convincing, and his interactions with Dave as well!

Why I’m recommending it: Wow, what an entry. Extremely funny and smart for combining Bro's ironic purposes with John's pranking skills. The idea of making them pair up unwillingly is always fun, and to see it really worked in the end is quite an accomplishment. I liked the concept of them being demons, and grimdark!Rose being their boss. Really great writing on the characters considering it's an AU that makes them demons. Also, the art is truly funny and goes well with what's going on. Go read it!

Rec 3: The Gran Ruse: The Ass Was A Distaction

Why I’m recommending it: The characters are very well written, and the story is well-paced. There are quite a lot of funny moments and I really liked how it worked with Dave having to go on with Rose's dare. There's some extremely nice art in there apart from the writing. The ending is just so adorable, I just kept smiling like a dork. Thoroughly cute.

Why I’m recommending it: This is one of the best examples ever of a picture that tells a story all on its own! The art is 100% top notch, I can't stop looking at it! The split flowchart is such an inspired way of interpreting the prompt, I was like wow what a great thing!! And THAT ENDING! It's nothing short of genius. The callback to the comic is so perfect I was smiling non-stop after reading this!!

Rec 2: from coast to coast he's the one you hate the most

Why I’m recommending it: First off te art is wow gorgeous, I love that stylization, like I could go on forever about it. And the East vs West coast thing was subtle enough that I didn't catch it at first but when I did I was like DANG what better way to represent hatred between rappers than to use one of the oldest rapping rivalries there is as symbolism? The contrast as well between the all out brawl and the everyday hatred is awesome! The music also is a really good thing!

Why I’m recommending it: Once again this art is like bang! The bright, contrasting colors and nightlife backsets set the feel and tell a story all on their own. I would give my left arm to make art like this, I tell you. Normally I'm not a fan of side by side comics, they tend to lose me somewhere along the way, but this one keeps the narration nice and straightforward, not bogging the reader down with anything unnecessary so that they can read the comics side by side and enjoy the amazing art and wonderful story. As well I also really liked that this was for Terezi<3Vriska, not spades, which I think takes the whole narrative and puts an awesome spin on it even without anything ever needing to be mentioned.

Why I’m recommending it: This game is fantastic. The art is just ridiculously good from start to finish, and the story is even better. Even with all the hints given the twist took me by surprise, and when I played it again I saw all the little things that just made me feel all kinds of feelings!! The AU is well-thought and convincing, with the necessary details of the character's career paths for not playing Sgrub. The writing and pacing is great, and keeps one reading on.

The art is so great, and goes well with the amazing moments in the story, not to mention it helps to describe the situation. A must-read!

Why I’m recommending it: This artist has an excellent command of shape and value. Look at the definition on Fef's arm, for example, or everyone's clothes! Not only that, but their command of gesture is excellent. Everyone's personalities come across beautifully in their posture, and for folk occupied in a very stationary pursuit there's so much movement in the lines and figures. You can really feel the weight of Fef sitting on the edge of the table, and the flashiness of Sollux shuffling the cards.

Why I’m recommending it: This one takes a different tack from my first rec. It's really crisp and graphic. Why I’m recommending it: Whoever thought of the concept for this entry must have read American Gods. Anyway, if you didn't, its about remnants of religions that came/belonged to America and are dying out because no one believes in them anymore. I personally hated that book. I hated it because the idea had so much potential, and, to me, the characters just weren't there and it kind of turned into this drudge at the end. SO TEAM DAVE<3JOHN, I JUST WANT TO SAY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NOT DOING ANY OF THOSE THINGS. YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL TEAM. You take the idea and fucking run with it. You've given me the American Gods that should have been, and made it funny and witty and loveable. The pictures are so great and the whole thing has an air of mystery about it (even though it's pretty obvious that John is the Wind King!) and its wonderful.
