Round 2 entries up!
Jul. 9th, 2012 11:32 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
ETA: Sorry, we accidentally listed the wrong sector assignments! The ones below should be correct.
ETA 2: Nope, mimicre messed up in fixing it and accidentally assigned S1 to their own entries; this version should be correct.
There are a few entries (all submitted or resubmitted tonight) still in queue, and we're also waiting on several other resubmissions, but the vast majority of entries we have received are now posted on their respective comms.
Round 2 Phase One voting will open some time this coming weekend. For now, please read your sector's assigned entries!
Sector One should go to
hso2012_r2s3.
Sector Two should go to
hso2012_r2s4.(Sector Two should note that a lot of palhonchos in Sector Four mistakenly locked their team's entries. Please join the comm to see them!)
Sector Three should go to
hso2012_r2s1.
Sector Four should go to
hso2012_r2s2.
Several palhonchos (especially in Sector Four, yes, but there were a few in every sector) mistakenly locked their team's entries this round, so I have opened membership to allow everyone to read them anyway! Just click "Join" on the top bar after going to your assigned sector's comm. Palhonchos who have locked their team's entries should unlock them as soon as possible.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email us (homestuck.shipping at gmail).

Round 1: Phase 2 entries
Jul. 9th, 2012 10:01 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hey shippers! We're still getting the voting form set up, but in the meantime, here are the top 12 from each sector in alphabetical order:
In other news, the late submission penalty has been revoked. After discussion, we have decided that applying a penalty for late entries isn't something we're going to do. We feel that extreme lateness is its own penalty, and encourage everyone to submit their round entries as close to the round closing as possible, because late entries are seen by fewer participants and receive fewer votes.

BONUS ROUND 3
Jul. 8th, 2012 02:25 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Bonus Round 3
Retro Gaming
Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!
Rules
- Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.
- Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.
- For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!
- For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!
- This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.
Title Format
Please use this format in your title.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Replace [GAME TITLE] and [YEAR RELEASED] as appropriate.
Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.
Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)
All content must be created new for this round.
We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!
PROMPT: ROUND THREE
Jul. 8th, 2012 02:03 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
ROUND THREE: BALANCING ACT
you gotta tip on the tightrope
Hey shippers!
Welcome to the very last main round. The R1 Phase One results should be up in a day or two, as should the R1 Phase Two voting form; the R2 entries are being processed right now, and the R2 Phase One voting form will go up when the R1 Phase Two voting form closes.
This round is a format challenge! Your R3 entry should be composed of two separate but related parts. They should be roughly equal in size/complexity; we're not going to be policing that, but the general idea is that they should balance each other in some way.
All submissions must be created/assembled new for this round by members of your team.
This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. If your Palhoncho sends it in after that time according to the gmail timestamp and before voting closes, your team's entry will get posted--but we may not be able to approve it out of the queue right away.
Requirements (as stated in the Info Post)
Fic/meta must be between 800-3000 words.
Combination fic/art entries cannot have more than 4 images.
All other image-based media (including comics) cannot exceed 10 images/panels.
Cosplay must be at least 75% created or assembled new for the challenge.
Gifs and other animations must be 8 seconds or less total. (e.g. you could have one 5-second gif and one 3-second gif)
Games are still subject to the 10-image limit.
Live-action movies are limited to one minute total.
Original music is also limited to one minute total.
The penalties for going over 3k words will be as follows:
3000-3050: no penalty (to allow for disparities in wordcount software)
3051-3150: -30 points
3151-3250: -60 points
etc.
PLEASE NOTE that gdocs is notoriously bad at generating an accurate wordcount, so you should probably check your submission at http://www.wordcounter.net/ just to make sure.
Also, this year we are requiring transcriptions of all text on images. These transcriptions count towards the wordcount.
For audio/vid files, we are allowing a 2-second grace period, and applying a 30-point penalty every 5 seconds after that. For animations, we are allowing a 1-second grace period, and applying a 30-point penalty every 2 seconds after that.
Penalties for going over the image limit will be 30 points per extra image.
If your entry has 800 words or more, it will be considered fic and will be subject to the illustrated fic limit.
Please remember not to post your HSO creations publicly until voting ends, whether or not they are chosen as part of the team submission. We would like to keep things as anonymous as possible!
Submission Format
Submissions should be formatted as outlined here.
Questions about this challenge should be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail! We will try to answer any questions posted as comments here, but we may not see them in a timely manner.

VOTING FOR ROUND ONE
Jun. 28th, 2012 11:52 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hi shippers!
Sorry for the delay, but voting for Round One is finally up!
If you are in Sector One, go to this link.
If you are in Sector Two, go to this link.
If you are in Sector Three, go to this link.
If you are in Sector Four, go to this link.
Please do try to read as many entries in your assigned sector as possible before voting. If you are at all confused, do not vote and definitely do not vote twice--email us and we will help you.
If you are not sure what sector your team is in, check this list.
Voting will be open until Sunday, July 1 11:59PM EDT. Sorry it's such a short timespan! We want to make sure we have time for the second voting phase.
Bonus points will be awarded for voting participation at a rate of 5 points per voting team member for a maximum of 30 points. 30 bonus points will also be awarded to teams in which every member or every member but one votes.
See this post.
We will be posting more concrete scoring information as soon as we can.
ETA: We are aware of the typo on the confirmation screen! Please rest assured that it is a typo, and forms are going to the appropriate sectors.
SECTOR THREE VOTERS: there is currently an issue where the form does not have the correct amount of voting slots. It will be fixed in the next twenty-four hours, so if you could hold off on voting until it has been fixed we would ask you to please do so. If you have already voted for four entries and want to add a fifth vote, please email us your username and your fifth vote.
ETA 2: Everything should be fixed now! Please do let us know if anything is still wrong; email is the quickest and most reliable way to get in touch with us.
SECTOR THREE VOTERS: If you have voted, please resubmit your form! The old data has been marked invalid. If you have not voted, go ahead and vote!

Round 1 entries up!
Jun. 26th, 2012 09:41 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hey, shippers!
We've got all the Round 1 entries up now, just about, and it's almost time for voting! Exciting, I know.
Before you head to the comm to read, please go here and click 'Join Community'! This will enable you to read all the entries that have been posted this round, even those that have not been unlocked by palhonchos.
Then go to
hso2012_r1 and scroll down to the section that says 'Most Popular Tags.' It'll be on the left. Click on the tag corresponding to your assigned sector. This should give you a list of all the entries you'll be voting on! We do want to stress that we're adjusting the voting form to account for which entries have and haven't been read, and we absolutely do not want people to read anything they think might make them uncomfortable! So don't feel obligated to get through everything. If you have time, you might also want to take a look at all the awesome entries in the other sectors, too!
Palhonchos should go and unlock their team's entry as soon as possible. (Or whoever posted the entry--I know we've had a couple of absences.)
Lastly, since this has been coming up a lot in the past few days, please, please contact us if your palhoncho has gone MIA or is otherwise not performing their required duties. Do not wait until after main round entries are due to tell us that you haven't heard from them in weeks and you don't know whether they submitted an entry. While we understand that sometimes life happens, palhonchos are vital to keeping a team intact and a team's experience enjoyable, and we do expect all palhonchos to be active and involved with their team on an ongoing basis. If yours is not we would really like to hear about it, I cannot stress this enough.
At the very least, your team should have a defined process for a) assigning people and tasks for each main round entry, if your team's a collaborative one OR b) choosing which of several potential entries will be submitted for voting. If it does not, this is a concern! Please do not vaguely waft your entry in an absent palhoncho's direction and hope for the best. You deserve a friendleader who communicates with you.
Our email is always open. We are busy, as we always are, but we will try to respond to team-related concerns as quickly as possible.

A Guide to Submitting Entries
Jun. 24th, 2012 05:34 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hi, shippers!
It's come to our attention that we have a lot of Dreamwidth newbies this year who might be a little confused about posting their submissions. We want to streamline the process as much as possible, so this is a guide to submitting entries with cuts!
( see below for image-heavy tutorial )
We hope that helped! Good luck.

A few announcements!
Jun. 24th, 2012 01:41 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hello, shippers!
- There is now an Archive Of Our Own Collection for Round 1 Entries, located here! You are welcome to post your entries to the collection at this time. The collection is currently anonymous, which will change when the voting period ends.
- If your palhoncho seems to have disappeared or is having attendance problems, please contact us! We are happy to help resolve issues but we can't do anything if we don't hear from you!
- We are aware of the issues with the R1 entries queue. We are currently in discussion about submissions for R2 and will make an announcement when we've made a decision!
- Please remember that until voting is completed, all submissions are to remain anonymous. We would like to keep things as anonymous as possible, so please don't post them anywhere (besides the AO3 collection) for a bit!
BONUS ROUND 2
Jun. 24th, 2012 12:12 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Bonus Round 2
The Return of Round Robin Fanadventures
Comments have been screened; we will be tallying the points over the next 48 hours or so, after which we will unscreen the comments. Comments have been unscreened! You may continue the fanadventures on this post as long as you like, though we will not be awarding further points.
Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 2.
Round Robin Fanadventures generated so much awesome stuff last year that we decided to bring it back!
For those who are new to HSO, this is not actually that complicated a concept, but it might be a little tricky to explain, so bear with me. The point of this round is to create a bunch of fanadventures that are for a team other than your own.
Rules
- If you are starting a new adventure: start a new thread using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art setting a scene (or both!), and finish with a command (==> does not count as a command for new threads). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
- If you are continuing an adventure: find a thread that does not center around your team's ship. Then comment using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art continuing the scene (or both!), and finish with a command (this can include ==>, though generally we would prefer otherwise). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
- For ease of reading, we suggest using standardized image sizes. 600x400 landscape is a pretty good size! But as long as it's the same as the other images in the thread, people will have an easier time following along. The HTML for inserting images is <img src="http://yourimageurlhere.com">
- For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!
- You may not comment twice in a row in one adventure. The point is to hand off the scene like a hot potato.
- You may not introduce or create for your team's ship into a fanadventure. If someone else introduces your team's ship to a thread, you can still contribute to that thread so long as your contributions do not involve your ship.
- This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 7. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the LJ timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.
NOTES:
- Audio posts are fine, so long as you include a transcript.
- Please make sure to check that your titles are correct!
- You may answer commands that have already been answered. Think of it like a 'choose your own adventure' game!
Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, use this format in your title.
Replace [THEIR SHIP] with the ship you want this particular fanadventure thread to be. Remember that you cannot create a fanadventure based on your own ship. Whatever ship you choose must be represented by a HSO team not your own. The only exception is gen adventures, which are permitted.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with. If your team name is not in this format and in the title it may not be counted.
If you are continuing a thread, use this format in your title.
Replace [COMMAND] with whatever command the previous fill has specified.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your title is not in this format it may not be counted.
Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.
Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)
All fanadventure content must be created new for this round.
We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!

ROUND TWO: MONSTERS
where the wild things are
Hey shippers!
Welcome to the second main round. We're working on getting your R1 posts up and running ASAP, and will be making an announcement as soon as we've processed all of them! It--might be a little while, sorry.
This round, your challenge is to incorporate supernatural creatures somehow. Zombies, ghosts, werewolves, and of course vampires/rainbow drinkers are all welcome!
Make sure the supernatural aspects of your entry are dealt with in a substantial way—ideally it shouldn't just be a throwaway line.
And as always, if you are unsure whether something counts or not, just ask! You can reach us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail.
All submissions must be created/assembled new for this round by members of your team.
This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 7. If your Palhoncho sends it in after that time according to the gmail timestamp, your team’s submission will get posted--but we cannot guarantee that it will be posted in a timely manner.
Requirements (as stated in the Info Post)

Combination fic/art entries cannot have more than 4 images.
All other image-based media (including comics) cannot exceed 10 images/panels.

Hey, shippers!
This is just a reminder that your Round 1 entries are due 11:59 PM EDT June 23, and that Bonus Round 1 will close at the same time.
We're doing things a bit differently this year and having palhonchos post their team's main round entries themselves. All palhonchos should have received invites to
hso2012_r1 by now; you can accept the invitation by going here. If you are a palhoncho and have not received an invite, please email us (homestuck.shipping at gmail) ASAP!
If your palhoncho is absent for whatever reason, please have your vice-palhoncho or other designated representative email us ASAP.
Thank you, and happy shipping!

miscellaneous announcements
Jun. 14th, 2012 10:34 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hey, shippers! We've got a few announcements and reminders for you all as the first round progresses!
- Points for bonus round 1 prompts have been capped at 100 points. You may prompt as many times as you like, but you will only gain points for the first 20 prompts your team posts; this applies to all entries, from the beginning of the post. We're sorry we have to change the rules a little on you, but we hope this will help to recenter the bonus round on creative work and prevent abuse.
- We have updated the roster to reflect all current absences. If you would like to switch to an open slot, now or at any time during the competition, you are free to do so using the protocol here. If you are on the absences list, and this is in error, please contact both us and your palhoncho immediately.
- We are still accepting First Readers! Details are in this post.
- Members of Team Cruxtruder, Ectobiology, and Kernelsprite, please check your emails, as we'd like to discuss a few things with you before we move forward!
- And finally, we'd like to remind you again that your main round entries are due at 11:59 PM June 23. Palhonchos, you should be receiving an invite to the R1 comm in the next couple of days, and will post your entries member-locked to the comm when the time comes!

Bonus Round 1
Genre-Mixing
Hey, shippers! Welcome to your very first bonus round proper--we hope you have lots of fun with it! This time around we're going to be asking you to mix it up a little--each fanwork posted for this round will be a mish-mash of two different genres, blended together in a delightful incestuous slurry to create an UNSTOPPABLE CREATIVE CONCOCTION--er. Or. Something.
Yeah, we're genre-mixing. That's what we're doing this round.
Rules
- Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of two different genres and one ship. This cannot be your team's ship! These are worth 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.
- Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!
- You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.
- Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.
Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
If you are filling a prompt, use this format in your title.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.
Scoring
For prompt posts: 5 points each (maximum of 100 per team)
For fills (as stated here):

All scored content must be created/assembled new for this round.

call for volunteers: first readers!

We are currently seeking First Readers.
In order to double-check that the tags have been appropriately applied and to double-check that entries comply with the round requirements, we are now accepting applications for a team of First Readers. This is what the position would entail:
First Readers will be assigned a certain number of teams to read for--most likely 10-20.
Palhonchos will upload their team's entry as a post to the round comm by the deadline. First Readers will then go through each of their assigned teams' entries within the next 48 hours, noting any use of the 15 listed tags (excluding tags marked unused). If the tag section is inaccurate, the First Reader will note the discrepancy at the bottom of the tag section.
Furthermore, the First Readers should note whether or not entries comply with the round requirements (e.g. whether the wordcount is accurate, whether the number of images used exceeds the limit, etc).
If you would like to apply to be a First Reader, please email homestuck.shipping@gmail.com with your username and team, any beta/editing experience that you might have, and why you are applying to be a First Reader.
